Default Tamiya TRF "clone"

Hi everyone, was just browsing ebay and wondered if anyone has purchased one of these "clones" from Hong Kong, and what your thoughts are?

Tamiya TRF416:

Schumacher Mi4

Xray T008:

Apologies if this thread has been done before.

I know someone who bought the HPI Pro-D copy...

My thought's when I first saw them were "that wont be up to much". My thoughts after I'd seen one running were "that isn't up to much".

I think the problem is with some of the materials they used, as you might expect they aren't quite as good as the £350 versions.

Hi Skodes, yeah thought as much after looking at the close ups. I was thinking of getting one for bashing and the odd race. I have a couple of Tamiya TT01's and fancied something different with a bit more adjustability, instead of hopping up the TT01 and ending up spending more.

When you consider what you could pick up off eBay second hand for the same money, they really aren't worth it to be honest.

In fact I think I spotted a Yokomo BD on here for £65 earlier, and a TC5 for £140. Two different budgets but both VASTLY better than the knock-offs from China.

Those copies are terrible in every way.

Brittle plastics, impure alloy and carbon that isn't carbon. Oh, and a lot of the TRF416 clones were shipped with 2 left caster blocks, so you had positive castor on one wheel and negative on the other.

Not worth the money, even if they were half the price than they are now.

The other issue is that eBay etc is full of second hand ones being sold as Originals. If a trf416 doesn't have the box don't buy it.
