Hi folks, as im sure a few of your are aware im on 8th driver, but i thought i would jump on the band wagon and start to get a bit of knowledge on 8th. Basically i'd like to know what the deal is with once you have the car built and ready to go how do you get the most out of an engine? I've heard that its all about engines in the 8th game so would like to know any little tip, tricks and maybe secrets to get the most out of one. Also what other advice can i steal from the people in the know. As im an 8th virgin!!
Thanks in advance Danny |

This is the best engine break in method in my opinion,i have used it for 4 of my engines and all have lasted and performed brilliantly.Personally i would ignore the manufactures methods of break in.
http://rbmods.net/enginetempering.php This method does take a while but be patient as mentioned and it will payoff. Make sure your engine temp is ABOVE 200 as mentioned in the above link. |

Damo's link contains good info.. Make sure you 'heat cycle' the engine during run in, use an old sock or tin foil to keep the head covered and get the temps up, no more than 230F. Allow it to cool completely before the next firing. A temperature gun is invaluable here. After a few tanks you can start to lean out the HSN by 1/8th of a turn a time. Keep a check on temps and aim to settle down around 230-270F and NO more than 275F. Once run in go for full throttle runs on the sort of surface you will mostly drive it on and check temps and maintain a nice plume of smoke. Buy a decent brand of fuel like Byron's 25% and keep to it. Expect a few glo plug failures during running in, probably need a medium to hot plug with 25%. What engine are you breaking in?

i'd say 1/16, then do a few speed funs. do this until it bogs down and cuts out, then richen it by 1/4 turn.
