Hi all ,
My dad says I have a Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi 05 plate with 78K on the clock. The problem I have is that the glow plug light comes on and turns off the engine almost every time I apply heavy power, especially going uphill. When the glow plug lights up, it sometimes it gives me half power, sometimes just shuts off completely. I think it is called “Limp Mode” – it enables you to limp home. It must be a fuel problem. It now seems as if I have lost a bit of power in general, possibly my turbo was half faulty and now it has gone?? OK driving round town in low gears but as soon as you are in 4th or 5th at slowish speed then the light comes on and or cuts out. Been in garage, had injectors tested and all OK. Been in Ford Garage for diagnostics test, “Fuel problem mate”. Yes I know, I told you that I said! £1200 to replace the fuel pump and sensor and they can’t guarantee it will fix the problem. So I have NOT had it done. Is there anyone who has had this before or can suggest what to do. Will try anything. Thanks all |

The engine is fords and Was used also by JAG and ldv. The later current mondeo engine is Citroën,Peugeot,Ford unit.

You also need to check leak offs as that will drop rail pressure. Most non dealers Carnt do the injector check and get low rail pressure and knock pump. It could be the imv (inlet meeting valve) on the pump. Could even be the rea on the turbo (electronic actuater) It will have a code stored in there and a good code reader will give u more idea.

Are any of the tdci,s capable longevity or am I better part exchanging it for a bmw diesel.

We've got three people in the office who have had Ford TDCi engines go over 100k, and mines done 90k. Before you run into the so-called reliable BMW camp, check this out...

I think also when buying a diseasel you need think that do you really need one? Ive got a mundaneo tdci do around £6000 miles a year, which works out to around just under a £300 saving on fuel a year on a similar sized petrol model. Car has already cost me just over £400 on a dmf and cluth kit, so its already costing me more than a petrol model. If anything else goes wrong i will be going straight to "we buy any car.com"

This is my second c max. The dieslel is by far the better for performance and economy. MY old 1.8 zetec averaged about 32mpg normal driving and about 37 on motorways the tdci does 43mpg normal and 51+ motorways. I have saved about £1200 in fuel costs over 32k miles. Im staying with diesel.
I have only spent £1400 in routine servicing, new brake pads all round and 6 tyres and the intercooler yesterday. It has never let me down and with 3 torn discs in my back and one in my neck its a hell of a comfortable car to drive.
