Default New Car

The new Carisma buggy's got me thinking. If you we're to design a new micro to suit our series, what would you want to see in it? I know after putting new electrics in my Shark FT the other day, I'd like a little more space as I felt like I was squashing them when I put the shell on.

For a 1/16th car: sealed drive train, touring car wheel compatibility, decent sized rod ends and balls, slipper clutch, pinions for 1/8" motor shafts, available spring sets (or compatibility to popular soft spring sets), large lipo space, large-ish servo space (at least Hitec 85mg).

Sealed drive train? like some of the early Schumacher cars?

Standard wheel hexes - yes

1/10 ball joints and cups probably best.

I run a 1/12th servo in my shark, but ran a hitec in my rc18, and the only thing I didn't like about that was the futaba servo saver, multiple parts to it.

I'd also improve the steering system, which is not the greatest on the shark. Something more like the tc4 (but in an alloy) or the Mi4LP.

Things like shock sizes might be a bit more tricky for an independant to do, and plastic's no bloody good.

Sealed spur and pinion would be nice, like Shark/Blaze/Vendetta. I'm thinking if it's 1/16th scale, it's probably going to see some outdoor/street action and stones will be a worry. But re-reading your original post, if it's purely for your racing series, then it's going to be 100% indoors (?) so no worries there, I guess.

Sealed is probably better anyway, as carpet fluff could get in the gears, but on the Shark / Blaze, it help with keeping the back end connected I think, sorry, can't figure out how to phrase that.

Default upgrade

one upgrade i' would suggest is driveshafts that come in 3 parts, a diff outdrive, a centre shaft and a hub outdrive, (hope you understand what i mean), so you can replace just the parts you need instead of a whole driveshaft.... as you can pick up just the centre bit (bone) for next to nothing wheras a whole driveshaft pair can set you back 20 to 30 quid

a bone system, only issue with that is you can easily lose the bones, but something like a double ended (ooh err misses) cvd / cva system?
