Default EPR in the olden days

I confess, I have no idea who's photos these are, I found these one quiet afternoon at work.

It's a helicopter forum of some sort, but if you scroll right down to the bottom of the page, there are some EPO photos. Interesting to see how the track has changed.

Enjoy

that's really cool.

dig the old logo...

And solves the mystery (for me anyway) of why there's that white painted chequered flag after the "EP" on the raceway corner...

Cheers,
Ty

I kind of agree.. the sweep down to the startline by race control looks like a nice section. Alex? Is that really you?? You're about 2 foot taller than Matt there!

Hi everyone Alan Lock here !

Guilty thats me in the picture, with my Uncle Steve sat on the bench and Dave Hunt over on the left !

Still keeping my hand in, have been running 8th off road, now gone inside on Carpet, will try and find a car and come down in the summer for a club meet.

Hey Alan! yeah give it a go. 1/10th offroad a lot easier than back in the day with brushless and lipo. Careful though, you may have a full on 1/10th offroad relapse...

Later than 91/92, I think it's more likely 94/95.

I think back in 91/92 EPO had the two grass circuits with the rostrum down the middle of the two - 18+ years, scary...

Also, do any of you remember the track before the twin grass set-up? I think it was more or less in the same place as the track from the pictures but was all grass apart from a piece of that wired matting with the black rubber - no grip at all when it was damp!!

Is that Pete Darwell of Medway fame in the bottom right corner?

I was an EPO member 1990 ish and I can remember the track being built (we were all racing 12th cars at the school over the road while colin and co built it). And I raced on it for a couple of years, moved to norfolk 93 so it was about before 94 im sure of it.

EDIT( just looked at my old photo album I won the EPO 4wd club championship in 91...errrm with a tomy intruder... as I have a photo of the club trophy with my name on it as It had to go back, I did that on the new track so I am 100% sure it was built 1990 or earlier)

When the track was 1st built the grass sections had black plastic mesh underneath to stop it cutting up, but it was nasty to drive on as the grass wore away very fast and you were left driving on the mesh, No grip and then your front wheels would hook in and you would spin on the spot, worst bit was by the scrutenering shed just after you had come off the EPO bend and before the concreat section with the concreat mole hills!
looking at the photos it looks like the grass has gone to astro,

I think the south port track used the same mesh back then, and you had the same probs there

Yer and I feel realy old as I can remember doing the British GP on the two grass tracks, with my procat,

but even before that who can remember south of watford meetings there, for the rostrum we used to stand at the top of the hill, I think my first meet there kevin moore won with a cat XL

Anyway I'm off to dye my grey hairs now

Defo 94 or later as I bought the same esc in May 94 at a NE regional in Preston Park (TRCC), the day Ayrton Senna died at Imola.

Bringing back memories for me, got hooked touring cars now and will be running the nationals next year.

Will have to make my way up to the new EPR as soon as I can get my hands on a buggy.

Will bring the old man out for day (Ken) as im sure he would like to see all the changes you have made, the big table top he built with all the other helpers looks like its still standing after all those years !

Alan
