I came up apon this at the weekend I had been lapped by the lead car after i had had a poor start with a few crashes but in the second half of the race i sorta pulled my socks up and i started to catch the car that had lapped now i want to know is what happens with unlapping yourself is the person allowed to block you or should they just let you past. Or am i alowed to overtake them at all.
can anyone clear this up. A

its common courtisy not to try an opertunistic move to un-lap yourself, if you can pass, do it and then disapear.
I don't think its very productive for the person you are trying to get your lap back from to 'block' you. if both people know whats best the 'slow' guy thats just lapped you will let you have a corner, neither party would loose much time... ... don't expect any help the next time you crash and want to get passed again in the same race. |

If you've been lapped already your runs probably ruined anyway, just sit behind them and get your lines right for the next round, the last thing you wanna do is take out someone a lap up on you, unless they want to let you past that is.

I guess so....
but its like being 10th off, making a first lap error and 1st off getting past you, thats not a 'full' lap? either way, as said before, if you are pretty much a whole lap down its time to snap your aerial in half and storm off the rostrum ![]() |

In qualifying, the golden rule is to let the faster cars through at all times. As you are a lap down, IF you can pass safely and drive away from the car that is " a lap up on you" then thats ok. In Finals, you have to give way to the car that is lapping. If you pass the Lead car that is a lap in front of you, then you can expect to be told to move over and let him through all the time, unless you can drive away from him/her. |

I think common sense should prevail to be honest... in the end, if you are the lead car and a lapped car wants to unlap themselves, do you want to risk your 'good' run so they can't improve their 'crap' run. I agree, finals is something different, your lapped, tough, but in qualy, use your nogging, let the numpty through before they 'barge' there way through.

I know if im being lapped the run is pretty much useless in most situations but i like to push right untill the end even if im not having a good run as if its round one or 2 i may go break it round 3 and 4 it leaves me with a poo time. I havent come to the problem yet but ill see what happens when or if it does.
Thanks for all your help A

if ive lapped someone im not letting them through, why should i risk you spoiling my run which could be the best on that day.. just for you to try get past to not even get an average run.
My advice, don't bother. |

The problem is then paul that means you would have to go defencive slowing you down any way.

I think personally that it all comes down to communication. If you have been "lapped" by a car early in a qualifier and you tale them for the next few laps, just ask if you can come back through but always accept the fact that they are within their rights to say no. If they're a good enough driver, they'll assess the situation and decide whether it is worthwhile letting you go or not... however, if you are lapped late on in a race, with say a minute to go, it is inappropriate for you to expect to be allowed to unlap yourself as you have no time to rescue your run, and the guy lapping you is on the most crucial laps of his race.
Let's remember that if you have been lapped, you may not be a lap down, if you're on a very short track and you have a 10 second stagger back from the leader, if you crash early they may lap you on lap 3 or 4 maybe earlier... at these times, if you rejoin the track and are right on the leader, just ask for a gap... it may well be beneficial to both. The key is, communication... always work together with your fellow racers on the rostrum, in qualifying you are all sharing the track to race against the clock... so play nicely... ![]() Yardy

just to clarify although you are not fastest car on screen if your blazin through ie unlapping yourself and quicker isnt it more productive too let the lapped man through because nine times out of ten they will tangle up with you and screw your run up and it doesnt affect your time anyway the bottom line is the ref calls the shots and for once ill defend em they cant see what ten cars are doing all the time ![]()

i have encounted this senario a few times.in qualifiying i think you should just let the quicker car through,be it been laped or unlapped.just keep out of each others way

I got lapped at the weekend in my final (due to me driving like a 'numpty') I wasn't too slow myself, so I let him through (as you're supposed to) then I just sat behind him picking up places
![]() ![]() ...............then I made loads of other stupid mistakes ![]() |

Ash, im with Rothers on this one. If you've been lapped, stay lapped and let the leader lead and 2nd try to catch, not 10th!!!
if you been lapped through driving like a stoner, chances are you'll drive like a stoner for the 5 minutes, but if you snap out of it and drive clean & faster - you may aswell hang back for some clear track and race your own race where you won't spoil the race for 1st. |

![]() ![]() Thats what I did, I let the leader through, just sat behind him (actually drove better behind him, still learning) then he made his mistake......and I went on to driving like a stoner!! ![]() Obviously if second place was close enough I would let him through too. I try and treat lapping cars how I would expect to be treated. So I always move over and let them through, as thats what I expect others to do for me if I'm in that situation...doesn't alway work out like that though. ![]() So Ash, think like that, what would you expect the lapped car to do if you'd laped him? would you be happy if you were leading and suddenly the lapped car started to race you to unlap himself? I find that somtimes being lapped can give you an advantage, like it did me. I just sat behind him (not racing him) and just made up places as he lapped other people. |
