Im sure there are more than a few 501X owners that already know these 2 mods but for anyone else I simply have to share this with you.
Possibly the biggest weakness for the 501X for any racers that use these cars on dusty tracks would be the rediculouly open diff centres.Without a doubt keeping dust from the diff bearings and plates is a problem and I know Tamiya have some decals for the on road car which can be used for this but I just made a set myself from some old decal sheets. Its almost a no brainer, the decal sticks to the side of the diff belt pulley and Ive gone as far as to trim the centre just enough to slip over the out drives. On the inside of the decal I also trim the backer paper and press it back onto the decal so to stop the decal from sticking to the outdrive's outer face.Let me tell you this works like a charm.Since running this at my track I recently pulled both diffs down and there was very minimal dirt inside. The second little mod was to fill the arrow and dot in the adjusters with white paint. The last time I tried an adjustment at the track I wish I had have painted these sooner. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I've seen the paint thing on the Yokomo BX before and thought "I must do that" but yet at the weekend I was still struggling away setting the diff without the paint on there and wondering why it wasn't easier.
![]() Will have to break out my white paint some time. I like the LRP diff covers ![]() It only did one race meeting but I took the cover off anyway since I had the car apart, and its all nice and clean in there. ![]() |

If you are ordering some parts from www.stellamodels.net, you could by the Tamiya made diff covers as well, they cost $2 for 4 covers.

You got the part number for those Tamiya diff covers?
The LRP diff cover part number would also be handy there Jimmy. Cheers.

Great advice, and now I know what to do to my Lazer ZXS diffs, as i have had the same problem, the rea gearbox is open as well as the front and the diffs do get really gritty. So no im gonna try your idea and hope I can do it as well as you have. Thanks for a great idea.
