I believe the cheapest BRCA spec motor is the Hobbywing Xerun (blue can) series, and as for speedos, a Xerun v2 60A or Xtreme Stock from Racersinexile or Giantcod, around £50-60, one of which the latest LPF is based, itself reasonably priced considering the extra support you get.

Would still go for a SP as Schumacher offer good support and if you blow it up do a exchange deal and so forth.

Pay more get more support

Agreed there - when the rebranded item costs over twice what the OEM version does, it doesn't seem worth it, as has been the case with Speed Passion stuff in the past, but at less than 50% more, not so bad.

am a big fan of the hobbywing stuff never had a problem with it,

my first idea was a extreemstock and a 7.5 motor , onlyproblem is the esc only rates to 11.5t offroad, anyone ran one with more?

You want to go overkill if you can. Running a 7.5 on a ESC that states no less that 11.5 turn will only end up in smoke.

The LPF will run anything down to a 5.5T in 4wd off road. It's an excellent speedo for the money.

I believe both those models are rated to 60A - it's only the software that may vary. I can tell you the Xtreme Stock is absolutely fine in a 2wd with a 10.5 in high grip conditions - the one I saw barely got warm, in a ballistic CR2 - too fast for the young pilot driving it. The LPF is a rebadge of the Xerun v2.1, which is similar in price to the Xtreme Stock, just a bit bigger.

I'd use the Xtreme Stock if I was going to use a stock motor with big timing boost (touring cars, mainly), but something with a few more amps and a modified motor without (much) boost otherwise.

The simple answer from HobbyWing is the TOP SPEC (i.e. same as SP GT2 PRO) V2.1 120A ESC for £90! Yep, full fat top end ESC for budget 60A LPF money!!

Motors are a matter of preference, I love my Orion motors off road, I have a HobbyWing motor which is in the good lady's TC and that seems great for the money!

As for service I actually went to HobbyWing products after having a very unproductive phone call with Schumacher regarding a failed LPF (running a 6.5 in 2wd before anybody asks) ... the HobbyWing ESC I replaced it with was cheaper than the cost of repairing / replacing the LPF and arrived next day.
I'm not saying that Schumachers service was rubbish, in fact they were very helpful but it was obvious repairing the LPF was going to work out uncompetative in financial terms.

used a hobbywing in the past cheap as chips but seem reliable, was never smooth, leaning to more of a switch whereas the nosram I use now feels much better, maybe worth buying a used speedo/motor combo lots to choose from here at oople.

This is down to the set up of the speedo as much as anything. I don't believe that any modern competition level speedo couldn't be smooth if you wanted it to be. There are tons of settings to tailor as needed.

I run a Hobbywing Extreme Stock in 13.5 touring and it is super smooth! The LRP in my buggy is fine but I would buy the Hobbywing 120a next time As for your motor dilemma I'm currently running 10.5 with boost but loosing out on top end against some of my rival 6.5 runners so I'm keen to hear people's thoughts on the best 6.5?

Default hi

id take a trip down to geedee models and purchase a fusion exceed motor set for around 130-140 you can pick up a 6.5t motor and speed controller witch is censored but i would advise you to run lipo,s you don't get enough juice out of nimh i run a 5600 lipo with a 3.0t castle creations motor in my tamyia tt01 through my exceed pro speed controller and it is quick as no ones business lol

I was wondering about that, a 3.0T motor in a TT01 would result in melty-melty drivetrain...3800kv is around 10.5T - sensorless motors tend to be rated in kv, sensored in turns.
