I have a XXX4g+ with a MM4600 and 3c LiPo. The car works well on my off-road track, but does not do very well on the paved road or high traction surfaces. At any time I try to get it up to speed even under just moderate acceleration the car becomes uncontrollable it will just pull to the right hard. The car it in very good running condition and well maintained so I don't think there is a mechanical problem. I also don't think its glitching. I'am using just a standard JR race servo for steering and I'm wondering if maybe I'm getting toque steer. I have also noticed than when I hold the car in the air and punch the throttle the front wheels do turn a tiny amount to the right. Any ideas?

Either a fouled diff or bearing. Probably. Check your diffs against the manual to make sure that they are assembled correctly. The xxx4g+ will encounter torque steer. But it's not like a shaft car, it will make the front have more traction b/c of the way the motor is spinning. it will not make the car go to the left or right. Also make sure your diff is tight, and that the pressure plates are not worn. To check the bearings, put them on a pencil and turn, if there is any drag, you need a new bearing. Look at your axles and make sure that they are not damaged. take them apart and replace any worn parts you see. Make sure that you look at all four corners of the car, because of the diff action.

The rear diff is in good shape and doesn't slip but I might rebuild it anyway. The front is a one-way and is also in good shape. I don't have the stock front diff to try. My tires also balloon pretty good, and I'm using Losi off road tires. I also replaced all the bearings with a Boca kit about a month ago. |

Sounds like a blown front way bearing to me. Hold the back wheels between your knees and try to crank each front wheel back, if one slips the bearing has gone.

The left bearing is was replaced last week and the other one seems fine but I will double check it. I also might add that I've had the car about four months (got it used) and it has always done this. The car runs well on dirt or grass surfaces though. I also may try some tires made for the street. Thanks for the input guys.

Pop off the servo turnbuckles and rev it, maybe the servo is glitching slightly under load through the receiver.

I will try this also. I have ordered a new JR metal gear high toque servo to replace the standard one that I'm using. I know the wheels do move a little to the right when I punch it, but I don't know it is the servo twitching or free play in the servo output shaft. The car has crazy amounts of power, it can spin all four tires like nothing on the street, if it doesn't flip over backwards first, and this is from a 20 MPH roll. I still think it should be able to go in a straight line under moderate acceleration though. Will check all the suggestions when I get home from work. Thanks for the help and keep 'em coming. |
