Hi guys you got any advice for me who is hunting for a part time job
looking for websites ect that can help me find a job either in tesco's or the like.

Put a smart shirt on, print out some CV's and go into shops and ask. More often than not they will take a copy of your CV and you might get something that way. Just say you are just seeing if they have any vacancies and go from there. Once you have done the first 2 you will be fine at asking.

take the 1st job you get offered. then carry on looking. at least you won't be part of the unemployed then and something may come of the job in teh end

That's good advice as it's better getting an applcation from someone already in a job, however mundane, as they've already shown they are employable.

Even go for unpopular shifts if you have to - put up with the hopefully short term inconvenience. There's a couple of 24hr supermarkets near me - the night shelf stacking job won't be the most sought after so you're far more likely to pick up something there.

Just don't get settled into something you'll eventually hate just because you've suddenly got beer money: use it as a stepping stone.

I found the job center useless I applied for a few jobs most of them where by visiting the shops and looking for a poster in places such as homebase halfords coop etc the super markets are mostly online now.

Job centre told me I would never get a job and to just sign on. Good use of public money that place.

If your looking for part-time, there is no better force than leg power, pop into shops, ask them if they got anything going, leave your details, then go to the next one, and so on, it can be demoralizing but if you put your mind to it, there is ALWAYS a job....

I worked in Beatties for months, came in one Saturday to find myself out of a job, 1hr later, I was working again.

I have to say the suggestion of dropping cv's into shops is not really the greatest. Although some small companies do recruit this way most bigger names do not.
I recruit for a group of 15 shops and like the other companies that are on the high street we no longer accept any paper applications.
The best solution is to apply online to all the high street names, at this time of year there are a lot of people applying for work that are leaving school, university and the like and to be honest i have around 20 applications per post that i have a available. To give some insight we are employing graduates as cashiers who are being paid minimum wage.
Also at 16 despite the age discrimination act means that you are not able to work all of the hours and shift patterns without a risk assessment. Also some roles require handling customer data that at your age would mean that you could not be employed.
As i say apply online, apply for everything and when offered an interview arrive early and well presented. Also prepare at least 3 questions about the company you are applying for as well as researching what the role actually entails.
When i recruited at sainsburys i had a number of youngsters apply for the role and i will quote some of the remarks that were made to me.

Why do you want to work for sainsburys?
Cos tescos never gave me a job init
It looks easy, you just have to move boxes around
dunno
if i dont come to this interview i get my dole stopped
i was sacked from asda

Whatever job you find remember in retail there is always opurtunity for progression, i started out as a part time assistant earning £2.25 an hour with 3 years of hard graft i was the area manager for north and west london

ajancys are always worth a try, once u on with one and prove u are a good worker they will find you the work, i have been with one in the past, also with ajancys once u on ur good books they dont mind u being picky about the work, and days of when u like is never a problem :-) i just had to give a days notice, but defo worth a try bud.

And of course if you are presenting a CV always double check your spelling before you print it and hand it over.............

Even if you are applying for a job pushing trolleys at Tescos make sure you look presentable in your interview!

As pro4nut said, make sure you research the company too so you know who you are dealing with.

Be polite and courteous(?) too...you might only be a part-timer but when the holidays come along and you're after some of that Christmas overtime it will do you well to have built up a good relationship with the person who dishes out the overtime hours

I was pushing trolleys at Sainsburys for £3.80 an hour in 1996, but I used to work all the hours I could grab.

Oh and another tip, from a 30 year old with financial regrets.....dont waste your wages! Save some of it if you can....it might sound lame to save some of your wages but even something like £50 a month for 5 years will go someway towards a deposit on a house.
I never appreciated the important of saving up for a deposit, getting a mortgage and all that and chose to blow my wages on fags, beer and motorbikes lol
