4wd inserts

im runing yelllow/green mini spikes what inserts do i need
snee blue or grey? which is a safe bet as an all rounder?

I run snee blue exclusively.

I prefer proline or losi, fronts are cut down rear inserts, and fit well. Schumacher have never made an insert that can last for a long time.

Most of mine are snee blue, but lets be honest - you could cut up a bath sponge and I wouldn't be able to tell any difference

I run the soft ones all the time, which are similar to the snee ones but not the same.


Don't ask me why cause I can't remember but I used to run firmer inserts in green mini spikes compared to yellow minispikes. Something to do with side bite if I remember rightly

Well personally if your racing carpet buggy or grass/astro then the losi white standard insert that comes with the 2wd buggy is best. I used on my 4wd and my 2wd and are noticable. Any Losi supplier model shop will sell them or get them. They are similar to proline anyway.

You can also tell the difference as with the schumachers tend to loose their bounce and means the tires dont dig in so well on hard cornering, and on carpet it can loose you several places in qualifying. Its almost like having a deflated tire with worn or crappy inserts.

I guess the best way is to buy a set of each and decide for yourself.

In Mini spikes I think a full Losi or Proline insert is too big so an already firm insert becomes condensed and even harder. In a minipin it's not the same as the tyre shape is more like an american tyre.

What 4wd have you got, are you doing regionals (I missed last weekends )?

Hows things mate, im gonna argue with you on the Losi tires mate as when i was racing you way back in the Welsh champs they were pukka.

After all on my Lazer hint hint they were perfect with mini pins and mini spikes, and indoors are still in my opinion the best. Heck I only used them and Proline inserts.

I see you have improved dramatially, so i expect you will now be lapping me now eh?

Im gonna try and see if i can qualify for the indoor 4wd champs. Odds on that with a 1993 Lazer?

with Losi and Proline making softer tires and discontinuing their harder tires their foams have become bigger and harder and the 'good' 'cloud' foams that Losi do aren't available anymore

Losi 'firm' foams are OK if you want to pack out your tire, Proline don't do anything that works in 'UK' tires.

with regard to 4WD fronts, best thing is to put the same in the front as you do in the rear, just trim them to the width of the tire, not the wheel.

There is no way anyone crowbarring references to Lazers into every thread they reply to could be anyone other than you. I'm just waiting till you try to get somone to try your B2 indoor setup from 95 onto any other car

After reading Chris post above, I would think you are referring to the Losi foams of 10 years ago, not the ones now. Current soft tyres from Losi and Proline hardly hold their shape under their own weight, never mind that of the car so the foams are bigger and harder. A full rear Losi foam would super pack out a rear mini spike, you've only ever run on the middle section of the rounded tyre profile.

I think you'll be lucky to find any buggy racing in Wales (if that's where you still live) in the winter, so qualifying for the indoor finals is usually a formality, only Harris and Milzy come so they'll have 8 spare places. Equally, if they are up north, then hardly anyone from down south comes so again you won't have any issues.

The outdoor nationals are currently more popular than ever before, in part cos it's great, in part cos regional series are not what they once were in most parts of the country. I remember having to send my entry off the same day i got it in wales just to get a regional place. However the indoor finals don't have the draw they used to.

I have only ever tqd one event, and Craig and Dave had to help me off the rostrum as i was almost having a fit.

I have won events mostly from 7th and 10th position, and my B2 setup worked for me as i tried hard to get it to handle like a 4wd in and out of corners. It was twitch city, besides the last time i raced 2wd, even Craig said it was on the edge, (not bad considering i was a lap down on the 2nd lap) but i won and that annoyed Nickys dad as he had to give me the trophy hehehehe. That setup got me 11th in the indoor regional finals as well. Heck im not much of a fan of 2wd but the B2 suited my driving style well.

Mmm I used the Losi inserts roughly one year ago and they were new. Well I guess a lot has changed, but heck at least I wont dump any more hehehe as the cells are much better. Im not betting with Dave anymore with 1400scrs hehehe. Im just here to have fun and see if i can still do it indoors with an old pile of junk. Im not so bothered about the nationals as i did five years of it in 2wd and 4wd.

I prefer carpet racing so i dont have to clean the car and at least i wont get wet. Maybe a few regionals outside if the weather is nice. Racing isnt as fun to me as it used to be.

Also what motors can you recommend now that would be able to handle being overgeared and still have plenty of torque?

Millzy - I rekon i would get lapped easily by everyone, but at least I wont get angry or throw my car across the pit area anymore. Ive mellowed big time. I just need to get away from work and relax and enjoy myself a bit. 7 years away from it im gonna be terrible on the track. Itll be fun tho.

The Last time Belsten raced he beat the third in europe racer (unsure who it was) at tiverton. Anyway he lost his license for 3 years and thats what stopped him. He now has got a tamiya and he still has Justin doing all the work. He has built a track behind his house and is pretty good. It took a while to get the material (plastic grass or whatever its called) up there but he has somewhere to practice. He may decide to come back into it, you never know. At least I can go there and have a blat when I can get away from London.

None, no matter what it is if it's geared wrong it'll be rubbish

With today's cells overgear too much and everything will just melt.

I used to race the wbl and rrc series ten years ago and before, been in toch wit belsten lately and his track looks prety good!! Shame there's nothing 1/10th offroad in wales, as i now have to do the mid west regionals(closest for me) and tiverton summer series now and again. Craig did say there was gona be a few welsh, just waiting on the dates!!
