I was going to suggest you wait until the end of April when the Team Durango DEX410R is supposed to get released. I think it'll be around £250, which leaves you with £125 to get the rest of the stuff, although it'll be tight, you'll get one hell of a car (from what I've read).

Other than that you could look at the B44 http://www.modelsport.co.uk/?CallFun...n&ItemID=28600

or, the 2wd RC10 http://www.modelsport.co.uk/?CallFun...n&ItemID=18469

You may also need to buy tyres if the ones that come with the kit are no good. So bare that in mind.

I'm no expert, and know very little, but that's my opinion. on kits.

Motor wise, do you know what kind of track you'll be racing on? I know an indoor track where they recommend not using a brushless motor with a lower turn of 6.5, it's just too powerful for the track.

Battery wise, you may struggle to get a charge and lipo's within your budget (I may be wrong), so it might be worthwhile getting an ESC which can take NIHM and Lipo, get NIHM batteries and you could upgrade later if necessary.

Just to give you an idea, I bought...

Lazer ZX-5 RTR (which is one of the cheapest) £179
6.5t Motor £49
ESC £90
2 x NIHIM Batteries £60 (£30 each)
Battery Charger £35
New tyres £10

TOTAL: £423

That's for a running car, but not a competition spec car. Great to start with though, and the advantage with the RTR is that it's ready to roll. it comes with a stock motor and esc etc.

As for Lipo's a set of cheap Lipos is about £40 I think, and a charger about £80 (from what I've seen). So 2 sets of batteries and a charger will set you back about £160 alone. That's why many people use NIHM because they are cheaper.

If you're after something decent, that I'd probably say go 2nd hand. I've modified my Lazer ZX-5 to be race ready, and it's probably cost me another £200. If you buy 2nd hand, someone will have done those upgrades.

The LRP and 75 pints of lager, i know the LRP may not be the ultimate off roader but after 75 pints will you care?

Look in the for sale section too

http://www.oople.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42173

Schumacher Cat SX for £150, £250 brand new. That would leave you with £225 to get your batteries, charger, motor, esc etc

A lot depends on where you are going to race. It is wise to get a car that others are using at the sight. This gives you two major advantages.

You will be able to get lots of advice on setup for the track and people will be able to help with repairs or spares if you don't happen to have the right thing. Spares are an important part of the equation.

Do go for Lipos. NiMh are a false economy these days especially if you need to get batteries and a charger from the start. You can get a way with one Lipo pack to start with as they have great capacity and can be charged straight after racing for the next round without any negative effects.

Budget for extras such as tyres (key performance factor depenfing on the suurface you are running on), tools and even paint. You will probably soon need a bit of money for spares.

I have to echo the previous post about the new LRP buggy...have a look at its thread on here,

http://www.oople.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39325

and on modelsport Uk...am pretty tempted myself!

Seems like its abit of a belter!! and for £140, you have plenty left in your budget to go brushless and for lipos, charger etc!

I have a B44, its awesome, but ur looking at £500 for it with a b/l combo lipo n charger!

Agreed on the LRP if you fancy 4WD, depending on where you're planing to run it and at what level, it's a very good value bit of kit. In 2WD it's hard to argue against the tried, tested and popular B4.

Having just read that thread, it certainly does look great value for money. I bought the Lazer ZX-5 RTR, it cost more and the LRP seems to give you more for your money, even though the 2 cars are very similar (even looks wise).

Certainly worth considering.

I'd go for the LRP and upgrade to brushless and lipo. No way of beating that. and you'll even have some change left!

Other than that, wait for the Durango DEX410R if you want a high level racer.

B4.1 Brushless RTR would include 2.4GHz radio, brushless motor/esc and a metal gear servo. The cost is low, so even with a good charger and a couple of lipos, that would easily be available for under 400£.

Amain hobbies currently has a preorder price of 224,99$ for B4.1 brushless: http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...ggy-w-24-Radio

I got a Kyosho ZX-5 on here, got two cars for £175, batteries cost me £50 for two 4900mah trakpowers, got an XErun off ebay for £100, and that was me sorted (I had a servo and stuff).

You said you don't wanna go 2nd hand, so you could get an LRP Blast which can be got for about £135 in the right places. That'll give you everything you need to start, then if you want to upgrade, £100 on an Ez/Xerun system on ebay, could get a couple of Lipos for about £50 each, then if you needed it, a new servo for about £40 and that's your budget maxed out.

EDIT: Forgot you needed a charger, you could ditch the servo and get a charger instead

EDIT2: Should have checked the OP date... d'oh!
