Default HM Revenue & Customs

Just had a KO Propo esc serviced/repaired in the US of A.

On it's return to the UK I was stung for £18.75 for the parcel , because KO quoted $100 on the box for a $20 service charge.

Turns out we have to pay VAT on any repair no matter which country the repair is carried out in. Been like that since 1983 I'm told after talking to HMRC

Good news is if I can give evidence to them I will get a refund but it's a pain in the butt to do.

Only some of that value is the sting that HMRC stick on it, the biggest amount, is the charge that ParcelFarce put on, for paying the fee for you to retrieve your parcel from the Customs department.

If KO USA do not put the correct value, and your parcel goes missing, then they will be at a financial loss, as the courier will only pay out the value on the invoice. In saying that though, the person must have incorrectly filled out the mailing form, as it should of stated that the repair item was not a sale, and that the repair value should of also been put on the invoice. No Dury should of been paid.

Pay the tax is annoying, but that's the way it is. The con part is the royal mail's fee for one monkey handing it to another!

You will only get the duty back. I dont think the royal mail will refund you any. So is it still worth the bother.
