Hey up folks,
Just thought I would ask the top guys whether and how many rows of spike you cut off the front/rear tyres on the XX4 when using Schumacher Yellow Minispikes. A general starting point would be good for when you start the day with new tyres and the 'magic' setup mentioned on here before. Kind regards Mark |

it depends on track conditions, the same with everything else. Try to run the car with no spikes cut at the start. if it is dry, then cut the outside row off - if the car is too snatchy, and if you require a more consistant feel then cut the inner row.
Ive seen people cut rows off the rear but i've never found the need to personally. the only time i would do this would be if i cannot set the car up for more rear rotation. |

Mark,
On XX4 and X5 (And XX4 for that matter) I always trim the inside and outside row off. If it's very high grip I usually trim the 2nd outer row as a first port of call with too much steering before I alter any setup. Tyre balance if best first, then subtle setup. I had inner and both outer at Bury on Sunday and most likely would on a grass track with a decent coverage of grass, only run the extra row on dusted up tracks. Dan

My set-up is totally the other way to Dan's. There is something in my set-up that gives it understeer so I run with all rows on at all times!

indeed.. my theory is i cant put them back on.. so try and get around it with them on just in case that little extra is needed. however in the circumstances where i DO have to.. then i will.

actually, you could argue that cutting spikes off would give you more grip. Same weight on less area. Like rally cars on ice.......

Both are probably contributing factors: with the stiff spring in and real tight is how I like it indoors, but is a nightmare out. Std spring and set loose has made it better, but still not right. As this is probably my last year of outdoor racing I refuse to buy a one-way so I'll just have to get used to it!
