Lipo Batteries From Hobbyking

Hi

Has anyone bought / using either of these batteries from hobbyking they seem quite cheap wonder if there any good

For racing I wouldn't bother. However for practise or just bashing I'd go for it. Providing you aren't drawing a lot of current they are perfectly fine. Quite a few of locals are using them in Rustlers/Slashes and they seem fine.

Ive been using the Red 4000,s at the PDA today and they are perfectly fine.

Yes, they are perfectly fine. I use hobbycity batteries in all my cars and heli's and they are fantastic.

I'd agree with Frogger. Especially as they are 'only' going in a Losi Desert Truck, for general use. People need to stop getting so hung up on 'C' ratings - they're mostly made up anyway from too many companies' marketing divisions.

These would be fine 'even' for racing.

Postage is good and you shouldn't get charged customs as I believe you can mark the value down yourself on checkout.

I currently have two hobbyking batteries the red 4000mah and the blue 5000mah 20c I find they perform great for the price and have hardly any difference from the So called 40c rated packs. In my opinion many of the packs C ratings are very over rated.

Oh, if you can, the Turnigy batteries are a little better than the Zippy Flightmax's -they seem to hold their voltage slightly better than the Zippy LiPos.

lookin at the 40c range, as the 5c charge rates seems good. is this pos ? says it is but does it shorten the life, or are thay really safe to charge at 5c ?

I don`t think theres a charger out yet that can charge above 10Amps so that means your pretty limited ...example 5000mAh charged at 5C = 25 amps

I personally charge at 1C

if its 5000 mah battery

then 7.4v it will charge at 1 c 5amp
11.1 it will charge at about 4.4 amp
14.8v it will charge at about 3.7amps

most chargers vary this one is 50 watts max it will also charge up to 6s packs 22.2 v

so that is capable of chaging a 11.1 5000 mah battery at 4.4 amp, close to the 5c it can handle ?

The C-rating. I won't bother explaining what it means scientifically - that would be boring.

For most people, all you need to know is that 1C is the battery's capacity in mAh divided by 1000.

Therefore, 5C is the battery's capacity divided by 1000, then multiplied by 5. This is the current that you can charge the pack at.

There are plenty of 20A capable chargers out already. I have one. The iCharger 208B, the Fusion Emporer 702B, and the Hyperion 720i

A 50W charger will get you nowhere. The chargers listed above vary from 250W output to 350W output (although the Emporer can charge two batteries with 300W output each at the same time)

I've been charging my 5S 5500mAh Hyperion pack at 3C - charging in 20 minutes is good!

Of the newest packs where 5C charging is permitted, I'd say 2C or 3C won't affect the pack's lifetime, 4C and 5C may shorten it a touch. But, LiPo cells are good for well over 100 cycles, but few racers will ever give them that before they move to something newer - so lifetime, in my opinion, doesn't matter a great deal.

Basically, when buying a new charger look for these things:
-Charge current, over 10A is good
-Charge power - there's no point in being able to charge at 10A if you can only do so with 1 NiMH cell. Divide the power output by your battery's peak voltage (so 4.2V per cell) to get the charge rate. If the rate is at least twice that of your pack's capacity divided by 1000 then good.
-Voltages supported - up to 6S is really the thing to have - most flexible. Obviously, higher voltage is better, but could be pointless overall. Still look at the power figures.

marvin cheers so what he is sayin there to charge a 11.1 5000mah at 1c it will need to be around 4.4amps and to charge it a 2c the charger will haft to be capable of of 10amp ?

ok, so ideally then i would like to able to charge it 2c/3c
