Default foam tire-inserts

I was learned to cut the borders of my tire-inserts with scissors so that they would fit better into the (curved) outer tires.

Is this really needed?
are there pro's and con's (except for the extra work)?

thx

I only cut the inner ones, on astroturf I don't cut any of the borders most of the time.
