Hell of a tiz regarding what lipo!
im in a hell of a tizz regarding a lipo for my losi 8ight conversion, monster mamba v3 speedo & 1800kv arrived yesterday, after paying £33.75 (£20 customs
 ) at parcel force..parcel force £13.75 release fee as they like to call it! they had my pants right down.anyway, ive decided to go 5 cell lipo after Marvin & co's words of wisdom and yes i would like to go the quality of Hyperion but i just cant justify paying over £130 for a lipo. i am going to stay well clear of ebay jap lipo's as i recently witnessed one going up in smoke at a local club day. but all the rc shops i usually deal with for nitro spares are more 2 cell lipo orientated. can someone point me in the direction of 'decent' 5 cell lipo's

mostly all lipo's are made in china, the sub factories surrounding the decent ones make the poor copies u see on ebay.
buy stuff from uk shops cause u get a warranty, thats what u pay for. what voltage is a 5cell lipo? 11.1? 14.8??

14.8v is 3s1p or maybe 3s2p for less voltage drop
cant you just link up 2 7.4v batteries, you can pick up 7.4v lipo's cheap plus you can use them in 10th racing

Guys, a 5 cell LiPO will be 18.5V (3.7 * 5)4 Cell is 14.8V, 3 Cell is 11.1V, 2 Cell is 7.4V and 1 Cell is 3.7.

i dont know about the zippy 5 cell packs but the 2 cell ones are great for the money

Alternatively, try Neu Energy (the same as the motors) in the US, as they have their own line of LiPos. Higher capacity 25C packs would be fine, if you're running lower capacities (<3500mAh) then go 30C - just to keep life time up really. Right now you can get some good deals on the older generation 30C packs - though they lack the high charge rate abilities of the newer cells.

Ya i recently forked over $150 us dollars for a Hyperion vs. my usual $40 for the Hobbycity type pack. I notice almost no difference in performance. I'm having to trust it will last longer and can charge faster I suppose (dont have a high amp charger to do that anyways but if i did I could charge that Hyperion faster). I run 4s but my 5 & 6s buddies one of which is an electrician says since its a higher voltage you can also get away with lower C ratings. His 6s 20c packs keep right up with my 4s 35c packs just fine and he runs longer cooler all the while.
Even though the $40 hobby city pack has no warranty, heck you could buy almost 4 of them for same price as one of these "top level" packs. And i have not seen them fail 400% more. Especially if your new to lipos and you puff a pack you wont beat your head on the wall as hard with a cheap pack vs. the $200 pack that your friends go oohh and awwee about in the pits.

650g isn't an issue on the whole. Pretty much any of the packs will be fine. The one you picked GNR Racer should be good for 15+ minutes of track race time. The 5000 would be closer to 20.
1800KV is perhaps a little quick for 5S, but it depends on the track - it shouldn't be any kind of problem - just tune using gearing. If I were to run 5S in my truggy (planning to do so), I'd be going with the Tekin 1550KV, but then I have a relaxed, slow on and off the throttle driving style - very smooth, but not really fast.

in all honesty i think im one of those virgin 1/8 brushless speed freeks,lets be honest most of us are or were, we see the vids on you tube etc of these 1/8 speed demons & we think Mmmmm i want to do that, yeh great for show boating & impressing the neighbours but insanely quick isnt going to be a race winning formula but then if i do go down the 4 cell route i will always wonder what a 40c (if it is a genuine rating) 5 cell would be like edit- I went for the lipo that 'BRS' suggested. wanted to order the 4mm connectors to go with it but out of stock  didnt want to cut the plug off the lipo really & i have read good things about the stock 4mm bullet connectors.

What the hell do you want 4mm connectors for? 5mm at least please! Try Hobbywing's copy EC5 connectors - polarity protected and easy to solder.
