Default Sky Scam

Anyone had someone calling to ask:

'I'm calling from sky to check your sky box is working fine'

It sounded dodgy so i asked who they were trying to contact and they just put the phone down. It happened on another of our numbers too earlier on this morning (both land lines).

Must be a scam, i'm sure you're all savvy on here but just thought i'd mention it..

Cheers for the heads up, haven’t had that one.

Did have someone phoning last week giving my correct name and address then saying; “they understand I’m having some problems with my computer and they were from tech support” (I’m not, and I build my own pcs so don’t use tech support). Seems like a line to get account info to me.

I've had people phoning up offering me a policy to cover any repairs to my sky system asking for £6.99 a month and could they take my banks details to start the policy running.

Needless to say, I just laughed

I've had that too... I just said errr no and when the box blows up I'll cancel sky and restart in 6 months. Got 2 boxes in the loft come to think of it, so I'd only loose the HD

When they asked for my bank details I said, can I have yours and they hung up.

The trick with those is not to even open them.

I have quite a few for accounts that I don't have.

Yahoo sent something out ages ago, saying not to even open the emails, as some can get details from you, just from you opening the email!?

So as soon as I get something from banks I don't know or names that I don't know, they just get deleted without being opened.

Certainly never open any links on the emails!

I am with Lloyds TSB and they state that, if they do contact you via email, they will address it to you, with your name in the title, as I get loads from Banks apprently, lol

Same here
HSBC, EGG, Halifax, the list goes on.

Funniest I seen was HMRC offering tax refund, but it's non addressed!
Yeah right, the tax man is sending you a letter out without your name on it - please send us your bank details and we will send the refund to your account - er, yeah ok
