The geometry is the same but the quality of plastic is just awful.

I take it the plastic naff bits can be easily replaced? They do Ally and carbon bits I suppose?

Am looking at a 4wd buggy myself.

If i remember rightly, the chassis & topdeck are exactly the same item and cast with the same material as the standard ZX5.

Its the rest of the parts are slightly different plastic - supposed to be slightly more flexible but seemed to break easier than a standard part. I wouldnt worry to much though, as long as you have spares for the shock tower mounts, castor blocks, front gearbox casing & front sus arm mounts you should be fine.

The plastic outdrives are fine with mild motors, but getting metal diffs will able you to run wilder motors with no worries. Not too expensive either.

i,d recommend :
1 x front alloy brace
2 x Steel diff halves LA201 (for front & back)
1 x Universal front driveshafts - 68mm
1 x Rear wheel axles LA233
1 x Dogbone rear driveshafts LA234

Mat,

I bought a RTR ZX5 for Ursh to use at Caldi. It was an ok car, she loved it, but spares were a bitch to find and it needed upgrades to ensure it didnt break every run.

The plastic diff outdrives are shit, and the lower hinge pin retainers need swapping for alloy.

You may be better off buying a good secondhand car Manix, the ZX-5 (reviewed in the review section) is getting a bit tired and old, needs a few upgrades to be compertive and spares can be elusive and confusing.

Why not look at a yokomo kit ? or a secondhand B44 - both common, loads of spares trackside, setup help etc.

cheers cris, ws thinking along that line myself re the quality of the parts.

actually just bought an orig zx5 kit for cheaper than an rtr, which saved some money, which is nice.

i can answer that one, first off stick packs, secondly, i have no need to be competitive, i'm not good enough yet.

Matisse, which version of the ZX5 do you have? If you want to know anything about the ZX5 range then feel free to ask ... I've become a walking catalogue for Kyosho electric stuff over the last couple of years.

The Kyosho cars can be VERY competative ... Look at Rich Cree @ Petit Rc last weekend ... box stock car, finished building the RB5 in the morning and a solid a finalist ... just to prove it was not a one off he did exactly the same thing with the ZX5-FS the next day!!!

Where you planning on racing? I work close to Bristol and always looking for places to race
