It should be fine, switching off at the wall can’t harm them, only mess up any non-saved files.
By fan you mean psu fan not cpu fan? First thing I’d do is check the RAM is seated properly; it’s quite common for it to slightly come out of the sockets with all the temp cycles they go through, had happen to me a few times with different machines. Check for any beeps from the mobo to help diagnose the problem too.

Check the ac power wire hasn't come loose at the back of the tower or the wire from the plug to the transformer hasn't come loose or outb of the transformer

could still be the power supply, mind, whenever my local shop checks mine, they normally say "motherboards gone" which is an easy way of saying "i dunno, but it's easier to replace the motherboard"

if you have a fan on, on the PSU, but the computer won't switch on, you can take the side of, and try to 'jump start' the mobo, by touching the pins for the power switch, if it still don't, then the mobo has gone.
Turn it off at the plug and not the case switch, can spike the mobo and knacker it.

First thing I would try before poking around inside is turn it off at the wall, then hold the power button in for a good few seconds. Then turn it all back on again.

Do you get the beep that indicates the system has POSTed?
If so, check the monitor cables are correctly seated, and if you have a graphics card, make sure that is correctly seated in the PCIE lane. |

more likely removing the battery has reset the bios, would guess that switching off at the wall corrupted the bios, have come across this before on a friends computer after she was told by shop it would cost £200 to fix, ended up costing her 2 pints
