Default ZX5-FS lipo weights and holding plates

Hi folks

I just designed a set of weight and a holding system for lipos in the ZX5-FS.

It adds 150g, 70 of which right on the centreline under the shaft.

The plates will hold any EFRA legal lipo in place and you won't need to dremel the logs either.

Plates are made out of aluminium, centre weight of brass and obviously battery straps c/f.

I'm gonna have some sets made, if anyone is interested let me know, the more I get made the cheaper they get.

Then I will have one made to make sure it all fits.

Once I'm happy with it I'll take pre-orders.

Right I haven't got everything priced up yet, especially the anodising, but I'm pretty comfident I can sell them at £50 + p&p.

That's for a 70g brass weight that'll fit under the layshaft, 2 aluminium plates to raise the pack over the logs, 2 aluminium plates to locate the cells (screwed on to the bottom aluminium plates) and 2 battery straps. The aluminium will be anodised too. Total weight is expected to be around 150g.

I'm having a set made for my own car first to make sure it all fits, then I'll make a batch of however many I have a pre-order for.

So if you'll want one of those sets, let me know.

Fab

Right,

I've had to get back to the drawing board on these. The first prototypes were too light, and also there were issues with the height of the whole thing, meaning I had to raise my bodyshell. Also as it turned out, my Lipos were 25mm high, as per the new regulations that will be in place starting 1st of april 2010 (as opposed to the previous 23.5mm).

So here's what I came up with, this time you will need the logs cut off, and there will be some foam of whatever needed on the outside edge of the chassis to prevent the weights from moving side to side (the radius of the chassis at the back prevents the lipos from being flush with the chassis). The overall weight is epected to be 180g, which is what Nick Caro is running on his car, my previous set was only 140g and the car was too difficult to drive.

Let me know what you think and if you're interested, I will have a batch made hopefully for before X-mas if I reach 10 demands soon enough. Price is expected to be in the £50 area, to be confirmed (and depends on how many demands I get).

Fabs

Just to answer some silly yank's comments on another forum.

NO the weight isn't much higher, the CoG of the whole assembly is similar to that of normal cells, within 0.5mm. But most of the weight is also located much closer to the centreline so having a slightly higher CoG will elp the rear end roll a bit more and thus provide grip.

Who was that Fabs?

As a design engineer I have to say that I think what you have done there is far better than I've seen on any other car from any other source.

Good design IMHO

Some guy who'd made plates that fit under the cells and into the cell slots, obviously trying to kill the competition

Well if I change to LiPo at any point as an engineer I'd want the best engineered solution, currently that is yours
