Default Experiments with Control Tyres...

As you all know, we shall be using a control tyre during our Championships and although the narrow minipins worked well for most in the Autumn Championships just finished, there is concern that they get eaten up very quickly and have a very narrow window of performance.

I personally was seeing that they took 2 weeks to bed in and then were dead after 3 more meetings! Not good having to keep buying tyres

So we are all trying different tyres and I would like to thank Chris for lending me some of the Schumacher Rally Block (yellow) tyres tonight. WOW they were grippy from the start

Ok the track tonight is not a great indicator being an oval, but I'm going to buy some at the weekend (Russell get them on order please ) and will run them every week now in anger to see how well they hold up.

It would be good to stick with Schumacher as we get the goodies for the raffle. We'll also look at just controlling tyres and inserts, allowing members to choose their own rims as we have had a few issues with rims not fitting correctly on some cars.

So it will be interesting to see what others thinks of these Rally Block tyres, I think they should hold up better than the mini-pins - your feedback will be very much appreciated over the next few weeks so we can confirm a control tyre for our Winter Championships that starts on Friday 22 January 2010.

Regards

It would appear that several members are now running the rally block tyres with promising results. I know Tim was running them at last weeks meeting and liked the feel of them. I've just got a new set which I ran in the finals last week for the first time, a little slippy but I think they will bed in nicely in the coming weeks, interesting to see if they last more than 3 meetings! I'm sure they will...

I was thinking tonight as you do...

What do club members think about running two control tryes in 2010 to allow members to choose the best tyre for their car and driving style.

I was thinking that we should allow:

Schumacher 24/25mm Yellow Minipins and Yellow Rally Blocks, with the blue foam inserts. Drivers can choose their own rims to suit their own chassis as we had a few issues with the control rims this year.

What do you think guys?

Maybe best to include the narrow mini pins as well, a few sets have been sold to people that haven’t turned up to race yet, so they might get a disheartened if they have paid for them and find out they cant use them in a championship. Maybe any ‘Schumacher’ Tyre for the moment, at least that way we can still get the prizes from them

Thumbs up

I agree with Russ, we can make our control tyre the block after the Winter champs.... when we have all used those terrible mini pins up

I've only run on the mini pins and mine are getting pretty bald now but they still seem to be working ok. looking forward to seeing what difference the rally blocks make to see what difference they make.

But I agree with the above, the choice of pins and blocks for one series will give plenty of opportunity for people to work out what works and how long it lasts.

Then a fixed choice for the spring championship can be made

It was agreed at the clubs AGM this week that we shall be running 3 control tyres/inserts for the Championships. They are as follows:

Tyres
Schumacher SST Mini Pins 20mm wide - Yellow - Part No U6671
Schumacher SST Mini Pins 24/25mm wide - Yellow - Part No U6624
Schumacher SST Rally 24/25mm wide - Yellow - Part No U6629

Inserts
Schumacher SST Foam Tyre Insert 20mm - Hard - Part No. U6635
Schumacher SST Foam Tyre Insert 24/25mm - Hard - Part No. U6627

In terms of rims, members can run which ever 20-25mm wide rims they like so long as they are using the tyres and inserts.
