Default Engine/upgrades for DB01

Hi Everyone!

Im pretty new to all this RC, but after reading some treads inhere i have decided to buy a tamiya DB01 or DB01R.
I cant really decide which one to buy, im abit annoyed about the fact that the 01R is missing the 501X diff upgrades and the bodyshell, so would it be best just to buy the DB01 and 2 sets of 501X diffs, + a slipper?

Also im planning to buy a Brushless setup + a LIPO battery pack for it aswell,
since there is a dealer just next to where i live who sells EZRUN BL, im planing to buy one of them, but here comes the problem...
he is selling 3 different sets, which one to buy?:
1: 9T 4300KV motor and 35A ESC
2: 8,5T 4000KV motor and 60A ESC
3: 5,5T 6000KV motor and 60A ESC

which size of Spur + Pinion gear will fit the above setup?

Any advise for a newby?
Also if there is any upgrades i should order right away?
im not gonna participate in any "pro races" just a bit of playing around on the local dirt track + skating ally.

Hope you will help me get the right parts.

Regards michael

Hi!

I have now atlked with DaveG28, and he advised me to buy a new one, and assy it myself just to learn more about it since im a first time RC racer.
So today i have ordered a DB01R (no need to waiste any time :-))
Im still in doubt about the motor.
As stated earlyer im planning running a 7,4 LIPO, and i still have a bit of doubt about what will fit me bedst?

the 8,5T will give me an RPM at 29600
the 5,5T will give me an RPM at 44400
the 9,5T will give me an RPM at 31820

Will the 5,5 be to uncotrollable? :-)

regards michael

Hi mikey

Sorry i wrote wrong before, it is a 9,0 not a 9,5.
But the 9,0 is faster that the 8,5, will the 8,5 be to slow?

the 8,5 comes with a 60A ESC where as the 9,0 comes with a 35A?
what difference does that make?

I'd get the 8,5T the 9T is derived from a 380 sized engine and gives more RPM but significantly less power.
Also i'd get the 60A ESC. If you want to go faster and get the 5,5 later on you can use the ESC you already have.

Hi.

You make a good point about the 60 A ESC if i want to upgrade later,
im just affraid that the 8,5 with 4000kv is to slow :-)

The 8.5 is plenty fast enough probably too fast if you havent done it before.

I have a video of a Slash on our track from this year.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5tvJ2zDRPg0
Doesn't give a good impression of the speed. Also the track wasn't that fast in that lay-out.
I've seen the 5.5 pull wheelies on the new straight in the slash. '
Here's a movie of one with a 5,5
