Default Preds in the United States...

how would an X11 with the big bore shocks likely handle rough and blown out tracks that have been used by 1:8 buggies? I've heard of durability issues with the older predators, but I haven't heard any durability issues with the new X11. I'm a relatively new racer, been racing on and off for a few years, but all on-road, so I'll probably break a few more parts than a more experienced driver would just on crashes, but is the Predator going to hold up to a rough and blown out track? thanks for helping out a potential X11 owner

Im sure most 10th cars will struggle a bit on blown out 8th tracks but i honestly don't think you can go much further than the x11.....

At one of our Nationals this year the Factory Associated drivers were having to put Losi shocks on there car as it was that bumpy. The Pred flew through these bumps!!!!

I would make sure you go for the x11 08 version and make sure you do the team mods, setups can be found on the www.the-pred.co.uk

thanks, I'm a rather old member over on the-pred.co.uk back from when it was on the original forum, back I think when the X10 came out, or shortly thereafter.

pardon my ignorance, but when you say the 08 version of the X11, what do you mean? did they change the spec at all between '08 and '09, and if so, what was it about the '09 that makes it not as desirable as the '08?

The '08 as it is being called is the original X11 with some mid-production improvements. Most notably the big-bore shocks and some other reliability improvements, I believe.

There isn't an official '09 spec, yet. I am kind of hoping that happens ... or maybe an X11 '10 The exchange rates are sort-of back to normal so it makes the Pred less unafordable for those of us in the USA

'nuff said,

thats correct about the x11-08 spec it is same as normal x11 but with them mods which is well worth having the car is durable as im not the best of drivers and i did a season without a breakage

ooh, this is an unexpected treat I always thought the X11 came with the slightly smaller XRS-and-X10 size shocks and that the big bores were just an upgrade, not a stock-replacement part for the X11-08. anyway, I'm getting my old XX4WE fixed up so I'll have some experience by the time I get the X11, and so I'll have a basis for comparison, knowledge of what tire works best at what track, and a nice supply of saddle packs to go with it. I am definitely going X11-08 this winter though. the XX4WE seems like it's one hell of a buggy, and with the X11-08 being so good in the blown out rough stuff, it should get on even better

You need to remember that all the team guys are running Lipo stick packs in the x11-08.
Once you have made the small changes the car is awesome. It was quick before but these mods make it super quick.

I have not really changed my setup from the first national this year, i even ran the same setup on the car last week at the European Championships.

Ok, I recently purchased an x11 '08 from a member here, he has been running the car stock (i.e. no mods) and I and looking to run the car for a month or two in its current form before I start modding it, this way I can actually "see" the differences, but in the States I don't have any local guys running the car so I can see the mods clearly.

I have searched and searched every forum, but I want to see the process of the stick pack mod step by step, so I can make this change correctly the 1st time, is there anyone who can help, I need this as clear as possible.

Thanks for helping a new pred owner

I've actually raced against 1/8 buggies on a blown out huge 1/8 track. I could beat them quite easily. And this was with the old X10 (with a 5.5 in it), before big bores. All I had to do was make sure they didn't run me over while I was near them, lol. I think the pred does great on rough tracks with huge jumps.

If you look through the older posts here at oOple or on the X11 specific part of the pred website there are several pics of different peoples conversions. From all accounts it makes the car more predictable. As for rough track handling. Nothing beats the xx4. But if the car can compete on European tracks, with all the different surfaces they race on I can't don't think it would be any different
Just started to rebuild the car I got from an oOple member and will be running it on tracks in NY/CT area as soon as I get my new body from Xtreme.

@ t8rtot:

here are some pics from my conversions (X10 and X11 tot stickpack):
http://www.ludodg.com/RC/albums/Pred..._StickpackMod/

! the last pic, showing my sketch with measurements ... these numbers are not correct, I noticed later on when I also did the stickpackmod on a new chassis.

I'll make a new sketch and add it to the album

I did ran in the Belgian-Dutch-Championship at STokrooie yesterday and this was exactly what you described: dusty dirt track with lots of bumps and holes in the track.

Things I changed from the standard Kevin Lee setup:

front:
shocks: oil 35, spring red, (! see Kevin Lee: 3mm shim in the shock, 14mm shaft showing, ...)
short pushrod-mod, with pushrod-turnbuckles showing 20mm
rollbar in the softest position
height: (forgot, I'll check tomorrow)

Rear:
no precompression-spring,
red spring
height: A-Arms horizontal (axles above level)
shock mounted in lowest hole on rocker and mounted in standard hole on shocktower + 18mm shwoing of shockshaft
no rollbar

My mate Phoenix drove a slightly diff setup:
Caster: 2mm shims in front of top suspension arm (I ran full caster: 4mm shims in front of top suspension arm)
no front rollbar

We also both drove with the solid cardan axle (no one-way)

hope this helps.

sorry no, it's not an solid axle in the front. I still drove with two diffs.
What I meant is the central cardan, the propshaft being without the One-way.
The X10 had standard a One-way. The X11 has a solid propshaft.
Mine (X11) although, came with the One-way-propshaft when i bought it second hand
