ok, many people i see winning buggy and touring races use a stick transmitter, if i am wrong then tell me, but i currently use a pistol grip shite team associated one that came with my b4rs, i have trouble with it all the time like with wavelength, it jus cuts out to less than half speed til it come back into 'range' about 30ft away, which is definatly not right. i am not saying pistol grips are crap because the spektrum ones look ace. but i see more people going for the sticks and i have not tried one but want to as i may find it easier. but dont want to be spending £50 on something i find harder, i need to get something good i can use for a cheap price as i am still at school and looking for sat/sunday work. like i said, any info personally or advice for what i should go for would be appreciated. thankyou

its all up to personal preference really....next time you go to a race meeting, ask some1 for a go with there stick transmitter. im sure some1 will let you.

ive already had stick ones, and i recommend futaba

Sticks are more popular over here but the steerwheel is favoured overseas. Personal choice really, i've tried both and prefer the sticks as i feel more in control although people who have seen me drive will probably disagree.

lol, they look a dam site easier, so maybe after having to put up with the pistol grip i may be a whizz with the sticks! , i heard off my mate that some contests dont allow pistol controllers is this true or is it just more bollocks hes talking

I've never used a pistol grip before but the only advantage I could see is a better control over your speed ans braking. This would come with practice.

You could get a 2nd hand Sanwa Gemini II system for about £50 off eBay (
(they retail for about £80-90). It's got a lot of useful features for the club racer. But at a good price.

Ive had this discussion a number of times and i prefered sticks. the main reason was i was used to sticks when i raced a long time ago, and i dont think i could get used to pushing something forwards to brake. ie: the trigger.

I've been racing nearly 3 years and have never heard this. Not saying it's not true, but I find it highly unlikely

I use a Futaba steering wheel transmitter and have done for a while now. For me, the stick transmitters are better for the throttle imputs but i find steering much easier with the wheel. I opted for the wheel hoping to improve my throttle control with time. (still waiting!!).

i have used a stick transmitter since the start but have used pistol grip/steer wheel transmitters whilst using other peoples cars.i would say like mikepimlott i cartn manage the trigger and carnt manage to push it fowards to brake. ive seen some of the top lads using their stick transmitters like me and then use some1 elses car for a test and they are great on both but still their throttle control is nowhere near as good as it is with their sticks.
if you want a cheap stick radio go for an acoms or a futaba attack, they do the job and will last a life time with no extra trick bits or complicated seting up.

ive used both, but i now use the spektrum DX3, highley recomended piece of kit if you can find the cash for one!

I actually used a pistol grip with forwards as throttle for a while, much to the amusement of anyone who saw it I always found moving a wheel a much more intuitive system compared to pushing a stick left and right to steer myself.

I thought I was the only odd one
I also prefer the wheel for steering, but the stick for throttle controll

I can use either no problems, but feel more at home with a stick set. Its personal choice really, you can be fast with either

wen i use a stick radio i find it un-natural to brake pulling back....

its what your used to.

i used a steerwheel because my first clubs local hot shot, mr Nick Goodall used a steer wheel, so i copied.

another thing i can say is that i find it much easier to come off the throttle, brake and on the throttle again withmy finger, not my thumb..

try it..

sit there and see how fast you can move your finger back and forthas opposed to your thumb.

lol, i look like a bloody mentally disabled person sat here wiggling my fingers and my thumbs, (trying to get my thumb to go faster) i know what your saying about controll with thumbs and pushing forward for forward and back for brakes. as i am the same. cant you swap it over on many stik transmitters so accelerate is back, and brake is forward?

but do i have to have a 40mhz reciever and set of crystals to use it? as i have a 27mhz on my b4. do i need the lot or can i just use the transmitter?

I use that exact radio and have never had any problems!

You would also need a 40mhz reciever and a set of 40mhz crystals to go along with it.
