Default Novak GTB sintered rotor

Well brushless is completely new to me but after having been away from racing for a while it seems to make sense to go with brushless. There is less maintainance required and less equipment required, motor prices are similar so no advantage on that score to either and I don't need to go out and buy a lathe, bonus

To fit the sintered rotor in the novak motor do you need the kit with a new endbell, or just a rotor?

Is it correct that the sintered rotor runs a lot cooler?

I've heard reports that the Novak fan on the GTB is poor and it's worth fitting a replacement, anybody know the details of the improved fan? Where can I get one?

Finally is it worth running a fan directed at the motor in a 4wd buggy? That is if there is room to fit one in

Thanks

All brushless motors from Novak will be sold with sintered rotors from now on, so... legal or not, they are on the way.

The sintered rotor is a 5-minute swap and direct fit in all motors between 3.5R (which it already has stock) through the 7.5. The endbells and cans are identical and need nothing but a hex driver to remove the endbell.

The older 4300 (now the 10.5) and the 5800 (now the 8.5), as well as the 13.5 stock motor, needed an upgrade kit with a new endbell with larger bearing to install the sintered rotor. The new 8.5, 10.5 and 13.5 motors already come with the upgrades on them.

The stock clear plastic fan is a little fragile and doesn't push a lot of air. Nexxus Racing, Team Much More and even Novak sell stronger 30mm fans that are direct fits and push more air. If you're running a 5.5 or faster, you'll probably need a fan in the car. I use one in my BJ4WE with a 5.5.

A sintered rotor will run MUCH cooler, and if you run one, you probably won't need a fan on the motor. If you are experiencing heat issues with the motor, you are either over geared, or over motored. You could also try the finned motor heatsinks from Novak, if all else fails, but in an off road car, you probably would never need that.

No, they are not compatible between brands.

And changing a rotor is not like changing an arm in a brushed motor. The windings are in the can in a brushless motor, and no matter what you do to it, it will always be the same turn that you originally bought. A 5.5 turn motor is ALWAYS a 5.5 turn motor.

A sintered rotor ONLY increases magnetic strength (braking) and lowers operating temps (slight gearing). The motor still performs the same, but at a lower heat range with stronger (like brushed motor) drag braking.

Cheers for the info, no real point in changing a 6.5 really as it doesnt get that hot. Picking up a 4.5 this week that allready is, so will just have to wait!

...when i changed to a sintered rotor in Novak´s SS 5800 in our Losi CR we had to change the pinion-gear from 17 up to 20-21 and it got much faster, more torque, more brake...and cooler, BIG difference....me like...

....for the record, driven on carpet indoors during the winter !
