What C rating would you go for a Cat SX running 6.5 / 7.5 motor?
Just ordered a LIPO stiff chassis and looking at changing to the Nosram LIPOs etc. |

Anything above 25C continuous would be enough. However, many people have switched to 35C or 40C continuous discharge rates, as the voltage drop under load is not as large as lower C cells, therefore the cells maintain a higher voltage and so the motor can utilise more of its rpm/V (kV).
I personally run a Thunderpower 40C Lipo in my CAT, but I'd have those Trakpower Dark Series Mark has mentioned 'cos they're really nice! 35C or 40C discharge dpending on which you choose, 5C charge rates, excellent life time. Yep, I'd have them. They're about the same price as the LRP/Nosram packs, but will be more accurately rated and closer to their actual specs. |

I have heard some say that the 40C LIPOs have too much punch

Nah. You can always alter the gearing and ESC settings to tone that down.

Cool and thinking about it yes that makes sense.
Got a Tekin RS Pro in both cars, great for tuning (maybe a bit too much) |

30C+ is fine with any cells that are 4200 or above. If you race on ultra grippy astro then the 40C will be useable. But if you race on a variety of surfaces, grass, concrete etc then the 40C will be quite lively.
To be honest, i really wouldn;t worry too much about the C rating. As long as they are 4000mah or more and 25C or more then they will be fine. Just get what you can afford. No point going that extra £20-30 to get LRP cells etc, when you can spend that saved cash on tyres etc

why buy cells that are too punchy and force you to buy a different motor? just get a lesser C lipo in the first place?!

Gearing down my 7.5 at the mo on the Cat (more to do with heat reasons) Thought about moving to a 6.5, but don't want that much at the mo

your getting a 7.5 hot? or is that the speedo? You must be a throttle jammer! lol
Have you cut out vents etc in the shell and all the usual things?

I ran mine on 6.5 with Vampire Lipo packs and it was more than enough. as for heat I would recommend getting the RS Pro solder tags into an area where air can pass over them really helps.

Vents cut and no real difference. Didn't have the problem with the Lrp sphere.
Tekin thinks it's because the motor is working too hard. Same setup in my XXCR and not a problem so was potentially looking at a 6.5 speed passion. Mate is running a 4.5 and a 6.5 in his cat and it runs cooler than my 7.5 |

I think it's because the 7.5 is working too hard for the track and me.. So a high wind = less full throttle etc. |

You'd be making your motor hot not the speedo.

I just put an old Orion 5.5 in the car and managed to get the RS Pro to cut out but have found that the Speed Passion V2.0 6.5 runs fine and only shows two or three LEDs on the temp scale which is fine. I reckon it is something to do with the motor which is why it is getting hot.
