Being a fairly recent convert to 2wd, I did a motor change this evening from a 19T spec to a 12T modified (yes I am still a brushed dinosaur) and was AMAZED at the effect of the different drag brake in the motors.
The 12T is a V-brush and has very little drag brake, I barely noticed the difference in a 4wd car, but in the B4 it just didn't steer at all and over-ran every corner. Had to run 50% drag brake and a softer front spring to get a similar steering feel. Big surprise. ![]() So what level of drag brake are you running. Do you let the car coast a long way, or do you set it to come to a standstill at the apex and skip the tail out when you lift off? |

I run 12% drag brushless in 4WD. It then coasts to a stop eventually. If I want it to stop quicker, I'll hit the brakes!!

There is no such thing as drag brake in brushed mode!
However, you will be feeling the difference in pure speed, and learning to use the brakes smoothly in 2wd is a real skill! Easiest way is to smoothly control the cars speed around the track, is without massive stick movement, just easing off slightly, and trying to keep the momentum is the way forward. Massive stick movements do not work in 2wd modified off-road, you need to be smooth. Get yourself an SC10 and start learning!

most novak brushed speedo's have a drag brake setting, as for how much I run: none!!! not even on brushless

my drag brake isnt in percentage on my brushed esc, but it does have level 1 - 5, i usually use level 2 on my b4 before going to brushless set up

I used to run quite a lot, but have been learning to dial it down lately as it seems to create more heat in the ESC than any other operation.

thats the problem i got with my brushless, gets way hot and tends to cut out after 5mins if always on the brakes so try to use little as possible or i should get a slower motor

Hmm interesting, that must have been a new feature on Novak brushed speedo's since the one I had, BUT...
I would turn it right down to minimum setting or OFF anyway in 2wd, and learn to use the brakes smoothly yourself. As others have said, it also generates a lot of heat in the speedo as well (not a good thing).
