Default How do you get sponsored?

I may just be stating the obvious but how do you get sponsors.

I understand the idea of course that you have to drive well enough for anyone to be remotely interested in you and if not you then have to at least have the potential.

The problem i have had is that money permitting i have never managed to make all the regionals or nationals and still have never been to the F3/F4/F5 finals.

Is there a particular event that you need to go to or do you just need to be driving week in or week out to attract them.

Or am i overlooking the obvious where you just have to get in touch with them.

hey Jwall...

Basically you need to get yourself out there. Get seen by people around the track. What could you do for a company as for promoting there products? You need to be helpful trackside and also on these internet forums. Id reccomend making yourself a CV, who you are.. where you race.. what you can do for them... etc
Most important.. dont keep quiet, speak to people and get yourself known!

Hope these few pointers help.

Try to look at it this way, what are you offering the potential sponsor?

In terms of nationals/regionals are you doing enough of them to offer value for money, ie 4 out of 6 regionals may mean that every round would count but if you get the results you could even win the region over someone who's gone to all 6! It's not just the results but the exposure that the brand gets.

Sponsors are interested in the promotion of their brand, so are you able to offer setup advice and other support to other drivers, are you friendly, approachable, well presented and prepared? (sponsors won't want to see you breaking the car due to crap race prep!)
This goes for forums as well as at club meetings in addition to other competitions.
As all of these may encourage sales over brands who don't appear as well supported.

Hope some of this may help - I've never been sponsored myself as I'm a rubbish driver!!

Edited to add: Dang, Ben beat me to it and in less words!!

Results aren't everything for RC companies, technical experience/knowledge and supporting other drivers are at least as important as good results.

Well i used to be able to attend all the regionals and nationals when it was all paid for by the parents but as off lately (the last 3-4 years) i have hardly been able to raise due to funds etc.

I have raced for about 11years on and off but i was never that good at the setup thing and preffered just to race it "as is".

I am now looking and researching into all the setup and will start trying to make my car go in a straight line (hasnt been looked at in a while)

If anyone can offer me some really good setup advice for a B4 factory team i will be grateful.

Does anyone know if the north east regional dates have been set yet and if so when and where they are?

Pretty much everything has been covered already, results arn't everything but they can't hurt either

Think of it the company employing you, you have to offer them something in return - you can't expect something for nothing

You also have to make sure the info you give out is correct, if you're asking for a setup on here then maybe it's not time quite yet to be looking for backing?

I'd disagree to be honest I've seen people acting exactly like this but if they're good enough, people WILL want them running their gear.
