Default New member ESC/Motor help

Guys - I've been contacted by a potential new FORCC member (Karlst) who is keen to come join in the fun during the winter months when it's too cold and wet to race nitro outside. He needs a Motor/ESC combo, but because he's only looking at racing indoors doesn't need one that will go down to silly turn motors, just something that can handle the usual 13.5 brushless.

His budget is £100. Can anyone lend advice on something suitable and reliable that will help give us another new member

Thanks,
Dave.

J Perkins to a cheap brushless speedo, have a look on the website for info, or one of the Orion speedos, there are quite a few on E-bay or have a look on Modelsports site?

Gladly - if you point me in the direction of one with a 13.5 motor for £100 or less

If your budget is £100 for a speed controller, then I would recommend spending that solely on a speed controller to get one with a LiPo cut-off and greater flexibility. IMHO, a good second-hand one from a respected seller would be better for racing than a lesser spec new one.

That speedo is the older unit but was top of the range. Although there is no fan, another can be fitted at a later date.

Bear in mind that the unit can handle very low winds means it will easily handle a 13.5T and have the opportunity to change the settings to suit the track etc.

Paul Upton is a well-known racer on the national scene so is a reputable seller...

the nosram evil units are good value, and backed by the usual good nosram warranty. should be ideal for winter racing. If you think you may get a taste for electric and venture outdoors in the summer then you may be better getting a second hand speedo of a higher spec so that it can cope with the faster motors needed on bigger tracks.

Hi,

one of the chaps at the club had a problem with the cheap nosram, kept cutting out mid race. He could have had a dud of course....

if it were me i would get the 120A hobbywing, supposed to be good for modified and £75 delivered
http://cgi.ebay.com/HOBBYWING-XERUN-...d=p3286.c0.m14

you could probably get a second hand 13.5T motor for your excess £25

Or i could probably be persuaded by this combo, same speedo as above, just half the fets..... £98 delivered
http://cgi.ebay.com/New-XeRun-13-5T-...3286.m63.l1177

Of course overseas ordering and running the import gauntlet may not be your thing......

Gearing will depend on which car you are running but tyres are shumacher yellow full spikes. Once they are scrubbed in they will last for ages. Stick some soft inserts in them as well.
