Default Tamiya 502x build help -- Lee Martin

Hi Guys,

Me and Dad just ordered new 502xs and I have been reading Lee Martin's build guide from TRF Racing he mentions the following upgrades to the standard kit:

Aluminium rear hubs
Drive Shafts
Gold Shock bodies
Blue Screws
Shock stand offs (not sure what these are?)

My Question is what is the difference between these parts and the standard kit parts, in particular I can't find part numbers for these parts

Thanks for the help

Chris

Gold Shock bodies:

42132 HL Cylinder for Aeration dampers (Front, 2pcs) x1
42133 HL Cylinder for Aeration dampers (Rear, 2pcs) x1

Alumninium Rear Hubs:

54246 TRF201 Aluminium Rear Upright (1.0)
or the 0.5 or 0 degree

Driveshafts:

54118 WO Universal Shaft Set Front (2pcs) x1
54119 WO Universal Shaft Set Rear (2pcs) x1

Shock stand offs ( maybe he means the shock bushings made from aluminium instead of plastic:
54205 DB01 Aluminium Bushing (2pcs) x2

The Rear Uprights make the rear stiffer and doens´t create oversteer. The WO Universal Shafts operate slightly better at big angles, the gold shock bodies make the pistons move easier.

I don't think anywhere has the shock towers in stock, although champ might do, they had some in on a special order for me, but may have got more! None of the 7 digit parts are available anywhere yet as far as I know!

The diff gears have been released as an option part, it's 54262 I think?

How the hell did you break that?! I've bend one in the hardest crash ever (wheel tangle on a straight, right into a solid building), but never actually broken one. Your best bet is the wanted section here or go searching in Hong Kong based online shops.

I should have a few sets in stock in approx 2-3 weeks. But they're not cheap, I'd hazard a guess at £25 for the complete tree of A parts.

If you haven't found somy by then, let me know and I'll sort you out with a set.

i found no matter where you position the shocks, the ride hieght is still to high. i had some blue rb5 shocks for spares and used them on the rear now it sits alot better.

If you read Lee martins ongoing report you will see that he cut 1-2 coils of the rear springs. I also did the same to my springs and the car now sits perfectly.

Me too. Had to do the same on the 511 too. Loads better when cut down.

i read that. i just did not like the idea of hacking a perfectly good pair of springs and once you cut them they dont have that perfect circle on the bottom any more which i do not like. so the rb5 springs are the equivelant of 2 coils removed and they are blue which also make the car look better lol

Springs operate just fine with a coil cut, Lee won the European Champs with cut springs so I'm sure they will suit your buggy

We all put the cut end on the collar.

Always cut the top end, ie leave the end with the coloured dot so you know what rate they are.

The car is an excellent jumper and easy to control in the air. One of the comments I recieve when on track is that people are amazed at how well it jumps and lands. I won one of our nationals by OVERjumping one of the opponents. It was a massive quadruple that I only took in practice to see if I could do it, otherwise I double-doubled it. I expected the landing to be severe and there was quite a bit of chassis slap, but, crucially, it didnt bounce back up again, allowing me to drive straight on.
The CAT SX I had before the 511 was nowhere near able to do the same thing.
Ironically I also lost the championship by mere inches on a similar jump later in the season, but thats another story...

I ran mine on sunday with Lees revised steering set up and after being a bit dubious as to if it would work, i was totally gobsmacked at the difference it made to the steering of the car. So fast in and out of the corners and as has been previously stated this car jumps superbly and with ease. This is problably the best handling car i've ran.
