Default Bumped into Ben Sturnham!

Not sure how many of you will know Ben but he used to race and packed up in 1994. He was "technically" 2nd at the 1993 Basildon Worlds racing for Schumacher but there was something wrong with the Tanaplan motor he was running meaning he was Disqualified i believe putting him 10th.

Anyway, he went on to become a professional Rugby player, earning England call ups etc....

He's now working as a coach due to retiring with an Injury and is head coach for the Newbury Blues.

I was out in town and a mate told me there were a load of the new signings that Newbury have made drinking at the bar, when i walked around the corner i see Ben Sturnham there with them.

Anyway, this guy is absolutely HUUUUUGE - Him and 5 other lads were drinking and they were so funny, one of them just grabbed this girl and picked her up over his head with one hand, scary for her i'm sure but i think she liked the attention really......

Anyway, i introduced myself to him as the last time he saw me i was all of about 12 racing against him at a regional so it was quite funny to talk to him - he still fancies having a play so i said next time Lee gets a meeting on at CML raceway i'll see if someone can sort out a car for him.

Yeah he was awesome when it comes to R/C, but packed up to concentrate on Rugby!

So you played a pretty high level then Scott? That's cool, do you still play now??

I've sent him an email about it anyway, seeing if he fancies the idea of a practise run first haha.

Some of the new lads he's signed up from Bristol look pretty handy mind, in their own words they're out to "Kill a few Teams this year" haha

In his day, Ben was a six foot beanpole. Some time after he had started playing for Saracens, he came to a meeting. I didn't manage to recognise the guy who looked like a redwood tree from the beanpole, if it weren't for the voice being unmistakably Ben's!!

Echo all the sentiments above, and always enjoyed watching him drive. He and his Dad handed RC a new word. When the cells went flat, Ben would yell "Dad, it doesn't durate!" Priceless!!!
