Thumbs down Royal Mail lost my parcel

Recently ive sold most of my RC stuff, the lot has gone, cells, cars, radiogear, spares, tyres i must have posted (or my girl has) 30/40 items out (durango fund).

90% went with a return address and all went with the address checked on the internet to make sure it is correct.

Problem is some of the parcels havnt arrived yet (sorry guys you know who you are im working on it!) so im praying they are somehow 'held up' in the system and will arrive any day now, but it doesnt look good.

Parcels were sent via my partners work so i have no receipt or proof of post, just the address they where sent to. She has tried to get some info without luck.

They were packaged up properly, no balls of tape or reused boxes.

Has anyone tried to trace/find a lost parcel with any luck? They were sent first class - not recorded or special delivery.

Thanks for any help you can give guys - SAM

How long has stuff been missing for and has any of it turned up after being thought lost? I'm interested to hear because I won a pair of driveshafts off ebay and they have't turned up after being posted first class two weeks ago. I've now requested a refund but I'd rather have the shafts.....

I have had a couple go missing over the years, all I can say is good luck, without at least a proof of posting receipt, you will get very little change from them

Even if you do have proof(reciept) you won't get much luck. Royal mail tell you that you are covered upto so much and then when you try to claim they send you a book of stamps. I've had this happen a handful of times now.

I would say contact royal mail as you may get more luck than me.

Good luck and i hope the items turn up as this is not nice when this happens.

Missing stuff was posted getting on for two weeks ago now, and was sent out with other stuff that has arrived (and some of that went to france and belgium). Guys ive sent stuff to that hasnt arrived have been real good tho and happy to wait a bit to see if it arrives or i can trace it.

I had a ebay parcel go missing about a year ago but at the time i was sure the guy tried it on for his refund, not so sure now, looks like if you dont send it recorded its fair game for getting lost/pinched by the postie.

Me own fault i know

Hopefully they will turn up this week

Sometimes Royal Mail parcels just get held up for days, and very occasionally weeks... I wouldnt get too stressed until 5 or 6 working days have passed. THEN get stressed ! It just might have ended up at the wrong sorting office.

If we send parcels out at work via Royal Mail then it ALWAYS goes Recorded at the very least, and mostly Special Delivery. You at least have some chance of tracking it eventually then. And we've never had one Special Delivery being " lost " for more than 2 days before it gets to its destination.

I have heard that parcels that have the address being obscured or damaged that they cant work out the destination go to a central RM depot. There they are more carefully examined and/or opened to get a some kind of contact details from either the sender or reciever. If they still cant work it out ( or dont want to.. ) then God knows what happens to them. Ebay possibly ??

If it went Parcel Force - well good luck. More chance of winning the Lottery than a guaranteed safe delivery there

whenever i sell things i always give the buyer the postage options, then it is their choice to choose the cheap first class and take the risk of it not arriving. I always prefer for my stuff to come recorded at least so it needs a signature, far less chance of it going AWOL.

first class parcels are covered up to around £36, but as said it's very rare Royal Mail will actually give you that compensation, especially as you have no proof of postage.

Actually I would say it is pretty likely you will get the compensation if you have proof of postage, proof of the item's value, and can warrant that the parcel has not arrived.

If you have sent stuff out worth more than £39 first class/recorded (in fact any uninsured service) - then more fool you! You're not covered. Always worth going for special delivery or standard parcels (+insurance) for high value items. Common misconception is that recorded is insured for more, or is tracked - it's not.

Return address is always worthwile so good that you put it on - but it can take a long time for things to come back to a return address if they could not be delivered. I've had stuff come back months later.

Also, Royal Mail do not count a parcel as lost unless it has not been delivered within 15 working days, so some of yours may yet arrive and be within the acceptable delivery time.

You will have been very unlucky to have lost a number of parcels from a batch of 30-40. I used to send out 50-odd a week and would only lose one every couple of months... and I'm afraid half of those losses were probably due to less-than-honest customers... the phrase "lightning striking twice" comes to mind.

Fingers crossed

I have only recently had a problem with royal mail, sent a parcel out recorded delivery and the guy never recieved it, yet when i phoned the number to find out where it had gone and they said it had attempted this went on for a couple of weeks, told the customers i would refund him if no joy after a leaving it a few more weeks which he was happy about, then he phoned me to say it had arrived, they had put the label over his house number and tried delivering to the wrong house lol.
all sorted
does get you a bit wound up though lol

only had this happen once, i now wont post unless its at least recorded, you have very little chance of getting any money back,as a parcel sent like this is just rife for a dodgy posty,

there should be a PPI number for the mail that was sent out from your partners work
account number will help but the PPI number is best - we dont have numeric code but a word for ours

if you can get that - you should be able to trace the mail even if it was just sent 2nd class

if she dose the post online it will be in the account section page or on one of the printed off conformation sheets , if it franked it will be on the account date on the machine normaly on funds/ account set up for adding money to the machine
