Default Brushless motor problems!!!

hi, i have an LRP sphere comp 2007 edition (7.5) and last meeting the car was very strange. it started making a bit of a rattling noise and then that stopped. Now there seems to be a 'black spot' where if the flat on the shaft is facing up, i cannot get the motor to move. The red, yellow and blue lights all seem to flash randomly and the speed drops offto about 1/2 to 1/3 of normal. I took it apart and there appeared to be nothing wrong with the magnet (standard one, not sintered). Put it back together and it was fine again for 2 laps.......broke again....this morning i went outside and its fine!!!!!! WTF is going on???!!!

Help would be much appreciated! dont want to buy a new one if i can fix it!

sounds like a sensor problem could be the wire motor or speedo though so you will need to elimnate them one by one

I also checked the set up was correct, that didnt make any difference. origionally when the motor wouldnt turn at all, when i pressed throttle / break, the red and yellow lights flashed on and off

to be 100% sure you need to try the a motor you know that works with your current electrics and if its works properly you know it your current motor that has a fault and if it doesnt work you have speedo problems. am sure they will be both repairable though. prob have to send them back to smd if there still covered by warranty.

Thats the only thing, i dont think the motor has a warrenty, or is it coverd by the one that comes with the ESC because i know that that one is still valid. The only other motor is my brothers and he wownt let me even try it because he us super possesive about EVERYTHING! lol he doesnt even let me use his soldering iron or tools ffs! its so annoying

LRP motors have been known to have issues on the sensor cable connector. Probably one of your solder joints is cracked. Had that happening to mine, had to open it, re-solder all the pins on the board job done, but not an easy one.

Can you physically see the crack? Some guys at the club had a look talkin about a 'hairline fracture' cos the rear solder tab is ever so slichtly bent, but they didnt think it was that

if i do send it off, does it have to be in its origional packaging. Im thinking its a lot of faffing around all this, might be better off just buying a different motor if the problem persists. Thats why its annoying because its bust half the time and then makes a comeback for a bit! Dont wanna go to teeside regional with a duff motor coz that'd be a waste of time

Just give it to Pete (castle models) at teeside regional if it's still not working and he'll get it sent off to be inspected by smd for you. Worth a try rather than forking out for a new motor. I could lend you one of my motors if you need one at teeside as I'll be there aswell p.s never knew that about your bro how gay! Haha

I saw an issue like this at a race where we tried two different speed controllers and the we tried different motors and it still had the same problem. Then we tried different sensor leads and still had the problems no matter what we did. In the end the only thing we had not changed was the actual motor wires and when they were changed to wires going direct from the speedo to the motor everything was fine.

Hope that helps.

Ok cheers i'l give it a go, would this be due to bad solder contacts or breakage in the wire do people think?
