Default Power Supply Quality

Had a propeak twin output powersupply for less than 7 months and it's already broken. It just doesn't turn on at all, I've checked both fuses at the plug and in the back of the power supply and there fine.
So I took the case off to find the worst quality pcb I have ever seen!
Looks like it's been assembled by a monkey in the dark!
Going to fault find it later when I get time to try find the problem with it.
I will be sure to never buy any propeak products ever again after seeing the quality of their products and will almost certainly be buying another powersupply from another manufacturer that I know I can trust for good quality.

Be careful in there Mike! Dangerous voltages

Why don't you make one from a PC power supply? Much more powerful for the money, and you can fit multi outputs.

I have had this problem Mike and i recomend you bin it.

They say they are rated at 20Amp but this it nonsence. i used mine at around 5 Amps (1 charger and 1 equaliser) for about 6 month and it failed. I took it to bits and found that there is a ferite core with 13 varnished copper windings through it and what happened was these get hot (even at 3 Amp and with the useless fan in the power supply) when hot, gradually the varnish on the windings breaks down and they short out killing the main transformer. 1 have rewound mine once and its now only a spare.

Interesting. Conversly I've had mine nearly 2 years, never missed a beat and I think it's excellent value. I've had a number of chargers and an iron on it.

I've had no problems with mine yet. Had it about a year and works fine, had 2 chargers and a motor cooler and tyre warmers all running at once.

The fan began to fail had random days where it was noisy and causing resistance and other days when it was fine then soon before the psu broke a nice smell started to occur which I imagince was the varnsish round the windings and this has only ever been with 1 charger connected and once a week an equaliser too. If you saw how the pcb and how poorly it's been soldered up/wired up you would be shocked!

Seen some last a long time and others not last long at all so seems a real hit and mis gamble with these so I choose never to gamble again with propeak and decided to go with LRP as never had a problem with their products and can put my trust in them. Worst £45 ever spent, Would rather have the blind dancing monkey that built it
