Default Painting outside of the shell

I have bought a second hand b4 and it has come with a plain white shell.

I know normally you paint a clear the shell from the inside to prevent scratches ect. but as this is already white has anyone tried to paint the outside then protecting it in some way?

If so what is the best thing to protect it with and is it worth it?

Thanks in Advance

I painted my CAT SX shel on the outside for the same reason, just gave it a rub down with some light grade wet and dry sand paper and sprayed it, I was going to use it as a temporary measure but the paint has never got scratched or lifted so I'm still using it
