Default LRP esc: thermal or lipo cut-off?

Hi, I've recently installed an LRP AI reverse pro brushless esc into the gold tub RC10.

I'm running lipo, and have set up the esc accordingly. 9.5 Eraser motor (came with the ESC as a combo)

However after about 10 minutes of hard practice on the track, the throttle cuts off completely. The little green LED blinks, and the heat sink is pretty hot.

When it cools down for a few minutes, it's back to normal.

It was my first time out with the ESC and lipos, and wasn't sure if this was the lipo cut-off, or thermal cutoff. I played it safe, and stopped.

When I got back and charged up the Lipos again, I saw that I'd only used about 2000mAh out of 5200mAh. Is that low enough to warrant a lipo cutoff? Surely not - must just be thermalling.

Anyway, does anyone know how this ESC indicates lipo cut off? Does the green LED flash, or what? Does it stutter the car's throttle like some other ESCs, or does it just stop you dead in the track with only steering - like thermalling?

Next issue - what's up with the thermalling in the first place? Geared too high? I'm running a 13t pinion on a 54t spur (32dp, remember). The "internal gearbox constant" is 1.87 according to AE.

Can you fit a 25mm fan on or in front of the speedo to blow air over it, it will make a massive difference to ESC running temps.
