Default Spektrum Problems..

I have a KO Esprit III with the Spektrum SPM1013 Module System.

Its been working fine since July 2008 up until Rd 4 Worksop (begining of Jan 2009...)

The first issue was when i was about to start my 4WD final... switch TX on then car on... all fine... drove a lap... lined up to start... warrble went.. NOTHING!! couldnt suss it out... So stood on the rostrum for the duration of the race... Tried the car straight after it was fine...

I re-binded everything again to make sure.. sorted, or so i thought..(this had the micro receiver in..)

Next meet was bury Indoor... it did it again once.. but this time in a different car my B4.. switched on drove car to line.. then switched of again as batteries were running down in TX as a couple had to swap crystals.. went to switch back on again.. nothing.. speedo etc was on but light wasnt on on the receiver?? Tried again, nowt.. unplugged everything, tried again and it was fine... ran the full race.. re-binded this set again so hoped all would be fine.

Next meet worksop Rd5.. both cars were now getting problems.. i would check at the pits, all ok... then walk to que up for my race.. switch cars on...nowt apart from lights on, on the speedo and in the 4wd the fan going... tried switching off both a couple of times before walking back to the pits.. then all of a sudden it would work!! FFS!! It was like this with both all day with the exception of a couple of races.. on these i re-binded just before my race.. i did this just before my 2wd final... so thought i would be ok... put car down then it went really weird!!? the steering was going / working really slow, when you applied the throttle one min it would move the next it wouldnt.. i ran over to rebind the radio gear after missing most of the race and it was fine again!?? 4WD was fine for the final?!?

Overall it ruined my day... & un-nerved me for my races...

Ive think ive narrowed the problem down to my module?

Any one else had similar issues?

Incidently ive been running an Amb personal transpoder in each car since i started back up again in july 2007 and not had one problem till now.. What i have done and yet to see if it performs faultlessly in both cars is move the PT plug form the AUX slot to the battery slot..

Cheers

Nick

What did you do to sort the issue out? just bend the pins ever so slightly so it would be a better connection once the module was in place??

I tried moving the module around in the back of the TX but the light never went out to suggest a bad connection.. is it worth getting rid of any movement felt once in position?

Just sopken to Horizon... they say you should always run the SPM1600 Voltage Protector as it wil be an issue from either a servo / PT etc??? So why has it only just started to happen?!

Cheers

I had exactly the same problem with mine.

As per Marks reply, mine was the module connection pins and a very small bend did the job perfectly.

If it helps, my problem only occured when gunning the throttle (so all the time in my case) Not sure if the main circuit board was flexing slightly and disconnecting the module for a split second.

I've also add a very small ammount of padding around the module, as there was lots of play.

I had a similar problem (using a 3VC), fitted a cap to the receiver (wasn't going to pay the price for a Spektrum one!!!) and not had issue since. Although if there is a poor connection there, that won't help.

I NEVER run without a cap in the RX these days, even when running 40Mhz (you guys remember that?), todays electronics are getting thirsty

I can sort you out an RX cap cheaper than the spekky ones when the rest of my parts come through

Default Spektrum problems.

I had exactly this problem with a Sanwa Super Exes.Got sick of stopping momentarily during a race (could never predict when). Slight bend to the module pins has done the trick.

Thank you to everyone who has replied... much appreciated

Last night i removed the module.. opened it up to check the aerial wire was ok.. seemed to be... cleaned the pins up on the TX and bent them slightly..(tried it in the TX felt abit tighter fit..) On the module i put small bits of electrical tape on each corner x 2 layers. I fitted the module back in and theres no movement now.. so will see how i get on!

Ive got a couple of voltage regulators / capacitors coming aswell so will plug into the receiver to see if that helps also.. Thanks to Darren at DMS for this..

I'll will update you all when i have tried it all out..

Cheers

Nick

If you have cells in the Tx that are not soldered together, it is worth taking them out and carefully cleaning all the contacts. I've had problems with both 40Mhz and Spektrum due to corrosion/dirt getting on the contacts/cells and causing fluctuations in voltage to the Tx. HTH

What port did you plug the voltage protection unit into?
