Default Replacing an ariel on Novak XXL

Hi,
I have been getting completely random interference for the last few weeks, due to a dodgy ariel on a 40 mhz Novak XXL. At some point the original ariel has been replaced from the pcb (not by me), and I think this is the cause of the issue. Before I go taking it apart, is it really that simple as soldering it back on?

I read somewhere that the length of the ariel tube can affect performance, does anyone know anything about this? Any advice would be welcome before I go taking it apart and ballsing it up.

Cheers

Lloyd

Yes

there is tuned length for the wire but not sure what it is

if you make it longer than the stanard ariel tube, say 1 to 2 inches you won't be far out

use a fine tip soldering of no more than 25w

Should be simple to replace the wire it's just a small solder job, if the wire was cut shorter than when it was bought new it can affect the reciever sometimes, the best thing to do is put a new full length wire in try it then cut it a little longer than the one on the table that chequered flag racing posted then cut off 1cm at a time trying the car each time till it's working perfect and not glitching.

That sounds like a good idea. Can I get the replacement ariel wire from Maplins etc?

Cheers
