Default Speed passion gearing

Anyone using low wind speed passion v2.0 motors (4.5r and faster) in off road, the recomended gearing on the instruction sheet seems a bit high i dont want to cook anything,
9.3 to 10 for a 3.5r on the list!

Tried it down the street on about 12 to 1 its fast as fook, too much for off road dont know what i was thinking buying this - - - to the for sale section!
