Anyone know where to adjust the contrast and brightness etc so i can see the screen whilst i sit out here in the garden on this bright sunny day 'supervising' the kids.

It's the FN key plus another, look for a sun symbol on another key, eg: on F5 That should do contrast.
For brightness, on my laptop it's the FN key plus the up and down arrows, again you're looking for either a sun symbol or maybe a lightbulb
good luck!

As someone who just sat in my car in the sun on my laptop - I can confirm it was really hard to see the screen even with everything set to max brightness.

Sit in the shade?
