Brushless (GTB) in RB5

What brushless esc's are people fitting in their RB5's? I looked at fitting my GTB last night and it is a very tight fit (has to be wedged into) the chassis.

OK, maybe my question should have been - can I fit a GTB into an RB5?

Lol, you asked what speedos we're using...

No idea but I don't see why not, I know Roger has a Nosram in his and they're a fairly similar size.

i ran a gtb in mine G. mounted it with the solder tab hanging over the chassis side, away from the cells. It was a squeeze but i never had any issue with it. getting wires under the shell was the only tricky bit!

did you get the bulkhead ok?

Yeah i was worried about that too, but in 18 months or so of racing i never had one problem with it. A bit velcro down the side for the shell gave it a little padding and it doesn't really "overhang" the side of the chassis. I also ran it in some pretty wet conditions! Mud bath grass track would be more appropriate!

I had a GTB in mine. Ran mine with the power/motor wires towards the rear. Need to shave a little off the battery box side so that it drops down into the chassis easier though. I didnt like the idea of having the wires hanging over the side of the chassis or into the battery compartment . I now have the Orion speedo and its the shiznit

I had wires and solder tabs pointing to the rear, had to dremel down the chassis sides and use thicker (double layer) tape at one side to get the ESC case parallel with the chassis sides.

I took a big hit on the side of the car and it broke a chunk out of the thinned chassis side

I certainly wouldn't go for solder tabs sticking outwards.

At the time i never tried solder tabs facing inwards towards battery box because they would of shorted against the Nimh cells, but now with hardcase lipo you might get away with it.

In the end i went for an LRP sphere and it is a much nicer fit.

The other big down point on the RB5 is that the shell doesn't fit the contour of the chassis - so when its wet you have some very large gaps to plug up to stop you speedo getting wet!

I've had my GTB like this for 8 months but it got Durga'd the other day and damaged the PCB. Still works so going to rotate it with wires pointing rearwards. It's not worth the risk......
