Default Lipo - Charging Through Balance Connector

Hello all,

my Lipo charger, can only charge through the balance connector.

The charger is this model:

http://www.aurorra.co.uk/aurv2/productDetails.php?id=17

I've only used this for micro packs in the past, but I am very happy with it.

However, I am now looking to buy some lipo's for my B4. I'm drawn towards the Demon range of lipo's, however, in their technical documentation for their lipo range, it mentions that the charge rate for charging through the balance plug should be limited to 1A max.

Point 8. here:

http://demonpowerproducts.co.uk/imag...structions.pdf

Obviously, I am reluctant to charge at 1A. Is this limitation common for balance plug charging?

Does anyone else use this method of charging? are there any issues with this?

Thanks,

Chris.

I imagine the 1a limit is due to the gauge of the wires going to the individual cells. Most chargers use the thick standard input cables to do the majority of the charge then use the balance wires to boost one cell once the charge level has dropped to a low enough level I believe.

Hi Chris, that says 1C rather than 1A ? it mentioned 5A charge rates for the battery but this 1A thing sounds like a charger limitation.

I have a demon 5000maH Lipo with the same connectors and use a trakpower balancer on it at charging at 5amps.

I've always charged Lipo's (trakpower, orion and demon) this way (through the balancer) and had no issues.

Give Nick a call at demon and I'm sure he'll be able to clarify for you.

Point 8 on the demon document states:

"...It is possible to charge through the 3 wire connector, but at 1 amp max..."

The trakpower balancer charges through the main battery connectors, as well as the balance port / plug. My charger just has a 3 wire connector, that's all.

I don't think I've seen another charger like this?

the very best person to ask about this is Mike at Aurrora, his number is on the site & he takes calls until quite late in the evening. although midnight on a Sunday might be pushing things
hit him up tomorrow night

if it was me i'd just use the cellpro & charge through the balance leads
thats what it was made to do
the connector harness you get with the charger has the same gauge wire as the balance leads(pigtails) on the cells so if the connector harness is good for the current then so are the pigtails on the cells

the cellpro is a true balancing charger unlike most of the supposed balancers being sold that act more like cell voltage levellers!

Mikes the dude you need to call
