Default thinking of racing again.........

I have been thinking of getting back into buggy racing again for the first time since about 1992. I used to own a procat, rc10, works 91 etc.

Batley would be my local club and I was wondering if someone could answer a few questions for me about the club.

- Does the club race weekly evenings or is it just weekend meetings?
- How many people particpate in the typical meeting?
- What is the spread of driver quality like (eg are there quite a few "beginners" as well as those who are very competitive.)?
- What would you say is the split between 2wd and 4wd runners.

Any other useful info you could give me on race formats etc and what cars people run would be much appreciated. I have been reading around with the aim of getting myself some half decent 2nd hand gear to start off again with. I can't believe what I'm reading about battery capacity - in my day 1700 SCE's were the best you could get and now you lot are using more than twice that .

Would there be a good time to come down and watch the racing and have a general chat about how the club works etc?

Thanks for your help !!

Hi,
I think yours was the email Brian passed to me earlier this evening (check for your reply).

We race Sundays only, trying to get a meeting in about every 3 weeks indoors, and perhaps fortnightly outdoors. Clashes with other events do sometimes prevent this though. Last year we ran a couple of Wednesday evening meetings during the summer, which was a nice change and quite well supported.
Numbers at meetings can be anything from 25 to 120, but on average recent meets have been around 50 to 60 indoors and about 30 to 40 outdoors for club meetings, regionals etc have higher turnouts. There can be many different driver skill levels in attendance, from beginers to the current world champion.
Not too sure on 2 / 4wd split but 2wd is more popular in general.
Feel free to come down to the next meeting for a chat.
Regards John.

thanks mate !! (it wasn't my email earlier !!)

I'll keep an eye on the fixtures and pop down to the next meeting. I might have to get my hands on a modern rc10 if the 2wd is the way to go !

Hi Medders,
it was me who Oscar was refering to that emailed them about starting again. i too stoped in around 93' and was running a Purple Bosscat at the time. funny you mentioned the battery situation cause i got all my old stuff out over xmas (thats why im getting back into it) and was amazed at how the batteries have come along. i always had a problem with dumping but that doesnt seem to be an issue nowerdays.
am going along to the Batley meet on the 14th to get the feel for it again and will hopefuly be racing on the 17th meet.
Just bought a Losi xx4 and a load of new bits like battries, speed controller ect. glad i wont be the only newbie!!

excellent, I will see you there. A Losi XX4 does sound tempting as I always drove 4wd and hated 2wd. Having said that I think my budget will only stretch to something 2wd and second hand initially whilst I'm learning again. I hope its like riding a bike otherwise we'll need a lot of spares !!

Default Staty true to 4WD Medders!!

on Ebay you can get a xx4 world for 180 delivered from America! i got mine second hand for £130 from a guy who used it in the european finals.
spending loads at the moment on the little things(which i cant really afford!). wanted to use my old bosscat but was told it might be embaracing if i did!!
One car i did look at was the Yokomo Super dogfighter 2 (MR-4BC) they are only £99 new which i thought was a bargain. if i didnt get the xx4 i wanted that was my next choice.
think you should stay true to 4WD!!

hmmm, staying 4wd would be my prefered option in the ideal world. I would never buy another dogfighter. It was my inability to drive that which led me to quit in the first place after spending loads on the Works 91 (that and going to uni). Cats were always best and easier to set up.

i'll have a look at how things perform on the 14th before making the final decision, although the Mrs has already had a heart attack when i mentioned the amount of cash involved

Do what i do and dont tell them. Came home with a large bag of stuff from Morley Models on Saturday, when she asked how much it cost i said £20!! she never checks the account so will never know it was actually £180!!
Just 2 more sets of batteries and a decent charger is all i need now. bidding on some stuff on ebay at the moment so will be up and running within the next week or so.

I'm going to try and get over to York tomorrow evening to watch the racing there so I'll see how the cars compare. They race vintage cars which has given me some renewed motivation to get my ProCat back on the road. You still got the BossCat?

Yes i still have the Bosscat. looked at racing in that vintage series but there car has to be pre 1990. dont think the Bosscat was before that but im not sure.

There are directions on their website. http://www.yorcc.org.uk/

See also the "procat mms layshaft" thread in the wanted section where Northy has posted some links to the relevant threads. He's racing a Procat so i don't think it needs to be pre 1990 to be vintage.

Let me know if you plan to make it accross tomorrow.

Just a quick note to you two fella's - York is racing at Lowfields school at the moment, not Huntington. This post has the address : http://www.oople.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1844

Good luck and welcome back!

P.S. You can race anything tomorow, the vintage series runs alongside a regular club night if you wanna have a play while you're out and about..
