Default Sponsership

How do you go about getting sponsership for racing?
Do you have to be a regular A finalist or do sponsers take drivers with lower abilities?

Firstly you must ask yourself why would a sponsor want to sponsor me
what can I offer my sponsor?
remember sponsors are investing in you they need some kind of return

my son mitchell is lucky enough to be sponsored by schumacher , having a bit of talent and getting good results at regional level off road certainly attracts attention and makes it easier to get your foot in the door.

Schumacher are not obsessed with their drivers getting a final results but more interested in their drivers spreading the word in a good light helping other fellow drivers and generally promoting their brand . Helping at meetings with track building or putting away after a meeting builds good relations and looks good in the eyes of sponsors

hope this gives you a bit of food for thought

Default Sponsorship

I would go one step further, what would you be looking to achieve from the sponsorship? Also you would be looking at a supported drive rather than sponsorship, that is generally aimed at top end drivers.

1. Discounts, if it's just about the discounts then you may be surprised how little you would save. Discounts are from the Rrp prices whereas most bits are available cheaper anyway. I am supported but still buy from eBay or on oople as it can actually be cheaper.
2. Support and setup help, generally here look at what local people drive and buy the same. A supported drive does not guarantee support.
3. To say to people you are sponsored, unfortunately common these days is to have the stigma of being supported.

A supported drive can be a double edged sword and apply too much pressure and potentially leave you driving something without much support. I would say concentrate on enjoying yourself if a supported drive becomes an option it will most probably be offered rather than being searched for.

theres way too much excitement placed on sponsored/supported/team drives.

nearly every man and his dog these days appears to have them

I dont, I would love to be part of a team, I drive all cars the same brand, I promote that brand and Im one of the first to offer parts or let people run my car if they want to try it etc

I race nearly every weekend, and travel around so not a one track wonder

and see many drivers that are lower ability and attitude than me making team drives etc

initially it was a bit... MMMM wonder what I done wrong

BUT

now I love it when I do well and beat supported and team drivers etc, gives that extra bit of satisfaction LOL

I look at it as, I have the 3 cars, I have pretty much every part I need, what would I gain from a deal, maybe a bit cheaper spares, well I broke 1 wishbone in 12 months, yeah ok a discount on tyres would be nice, but often you can chat with a dealer and buy 20 pairs at a time and get a deal.

good luck, I have 2 outdoor meetings left, just did the end of season champs at kidderminster

was racing 2 and 4wd at club events but stopped that and now concentrate on 2wd

it would be great to be part of a team and have that laughs and extra bit of help, but then sometimes I like pitting on my own and just doing my own thing

I even went to my local track on purpose in the pouring rain to work on wet setup and driving LOL, paid off as kidderminster was wet

planning on all new maclan electrics for the cars for next season, so a team driver discount may have made that bill easier to swallow LOL
