Default Help with Fluorescent Colours

Hi chaps.. i need a bit of help with flu colurs. here is what im using;

Iwata HP-CS airbrush - 0.35mm needle
Ripmax Silent compressor
Patrca Acrylic Paints

And here is my shell;

The problem im having with is the flu colour in the middle, its a mix of flu red and orange..(still not found the right colour.. a bit too pink)

everytime i spay the flu colour it doesnt seem to set right, and has a very coarse feeling on the shell. Its like the paint has set before it has even reached the shell, its causing the flu colour very suseptable to cracking.. what am i doing wrong? ive tried diluting the paint with a bit of acylic thinner..but no different

any help will be appreciated..

thanks
gurdeep

Hmm, its a tuffy this one. I use the pactra acrylics and they're fine.
I do use a .5 nozzle, so thats the only thing I can think of, as the flo' paints are a little thicker. It could be that its making the paint spray 'dry' so it effectively craeting like a dust rather than a spray?

Can't see any problem mixing them as long as they're the same make of paint. You've made sure that both colours are acrylic haven't you? I know it sound a silly question, but it has been known to happen.

Other than that, are you applying the paint in thin coats? and not in thick coats?

yes mate.. its like im spraying dust!!.. its a good way of describing it.

im using the same type of paint, pactra acrylic. The 0.35mm needle is fine with all the other colours except the fluorescent... so maybe i need the 0.5 needle to get it right. i thought the thinner would have had the same effect as this, but will give it a try i guess.

thank you

its already on the highest setting...not much difference between low and high pressure. problem will still persist.

I don't know if this is any help at all but the same thing happened to me when spraying a flouro green from a rattle can, I can't remember what make it was.

All flo' colours will be the same consistancy.
Have you thinned it down?

Bungleaio-
Is it a pactra solvent based can?
If so, there has been dodgy batches go out. I've had loads that have either done that, or have come out all 'stringy', like silly string.

if 45psi is your highest psi, you need to thin it more and do it in lighter coats,

I have tried to thin it down in the past.. but wasnt that much of an improvement.
im painting some more shells this week.so will see how it goes with the 0.5mm needle, and thin down if necessary..

anyone know what the principle of using a 0.5mm needle is? how does this help with atomising flu paints without the dust effect?

cheers
gurdeep

need the tip as well as the needle, and a bigger tip will allow thicker paint to flow and atomise better, out of the gun,if its grainy and dust may be ur not putting it down wet enough, after first 2-3 light coats.

i can spray faskoat or auto air fluro through my .35 airbrush nps but i thin it down and spray at 25-35 psi
