Default B-Max at Petit Euro Tour

I thought i would let people no how i got on with the b-max indoors at maritime raceway the weekend.

It was my first run with the b-max and i really didnt no what to expect, so i decided to expect nothing great so i couldnt be dissapointed! I started with Neil Craggs euro setup in the manual in practice. The car was way to soft, seeing as it was waying in around 1950g i thought it would have to be much harder than the typical 4wd car. Seeing as i couldnt change the springs, i decided to run the losi springs. I started with the green on the front and red on the rear and went to a 1.4mm roll bar on the rear.

In the first round this was much better, i was amazed by the car. So easy to drive yet the lap times where all there! After hearing alot of problems with the b-max over heating; i was very weary of the temperature afterwards and this was fine. However, i had cut many grills/vents in the shell and also dremelled the top of the spur gear cover of. After round one i had made 15th in the round, seeing as it was ftd, this meant nothing!

As the day progressed a gradually got faster becoming more comfortable with the car, i ended up qualifying D2 but could of been much higher. It was the person behind the wheel that let it down!.

Here are a few things which i found with the car through the day:

Diffs, they where all over the place. I rebuilt them from new as i didnt trust the factroy settings to much. I was adjusting them most rounds, had a few tight spots but by the end of the day where ok. However i would recommend some different diff balls from a different manafacture.

Slipper was adjusting it self for the first few rounds, keep checking this. By the 4th round it was spot on!

Make sure your gearing is suited to the track/motor. I was running a 5.5r with the 87 spur/19t pinioun. Cut the top of the spur gear cover and dont run the motor gear cover. Get as much air and open as possible!

I will post my final setup in the setups thread abit later.

Ryan

That's pretty amazing! My DB01 (NiMH) was around the 1825 mark, my B-MAX4 is around 1875.

My Bmax is between 1650 and 1700 with Lipo, still heavy! I think a lot of it's from the diff's/gearbox but may be wrong!

I had my 501 running at Petit but it confirmed my thoughts on the Bmax, which is that it really is great over jumps and smooth to drive, but maybe for me not with the most ultmiate grip, especially at the back. It certainly has less traction than the Tam, but can carry more speed into corners!

I ran my B-Max at the Petit too - were you running in heat 6?

I was in that heat running a white B-Max.

Funnily enough, I had a peek at a B-Max with green & red Losi springs - changed mine to that and it made a big improvement. Must have been yours!

Yes that was mine, i think if the weekend was to start over i would of gone smaller on pistons or thicker oil. It needed to be hardned up!

Had virtually the same set up as you it would appear. Just ended up with 45wt oil in front shocks. Ran a Novak 6.5L 20/87 - did get a bit warm.

Started with 'euros' set up with 1.4 roll bar in practice. Changed springs & front oil by round 3. The car still 'pitched' in (if thats the correct term) sometimes on the bend in front of the rostrum. Other than that, brilliant.

The weakest link was definitely me

My car got 'lost' in one of the heats. Was behind the tabe top, none of the marshalls saw it crash, just a mad bloke on the rostrum shouting & pointing

Congratulations for your results and thank you for gaving us your set up. I will take part to the Europa Indoor Race in Belgium in Februar, i will start with your set up.

When you said : smaller piston, do you think about the rear one?
and about oil, would you advice me to put 40w front and rear?

thank you

Cheers for the set up info Ryan, I was running my b max at the petit rc, I was a few spaces up from you I think, my car had orange and White shell and yellow jc rulux wheels on it.

I found it hard to gear my car on 81 spur, it was getting v hot!! I ended up on 87/20 with a 5.5 and that seemed ok

How do you find the fit of the losi springs on the Yok shocks??

speedworm-

Start with that setup but go 5wt higher all round, so 45wt in the front and 40wt in the rear. I think this will be as hard as you need to go. Only if the front end is diving in and still has alot of body roll, then go smaller piston; but try it with the heavier oil first.

Mark-

When i first tryed the losi springs on the yoke shocks i couldnt lower the ride height enough. I started using the plastic shock collars and didnt allow me to lower the car enough, so i put the champions pack shock collars back on and the lower shock bottoms on the rear. I had no problems with the springs coming off or the not being centrally aligned.

Hope this helps,

Ryan
