I just did my second nitro race (neo invitational / 8th scale buggy) and I noticed a few things & wondered what other people thought.
For starters, I almost got hit in the head by a buggy, I managed to stop it with my arm which really hurt and shocked me big time. No one came over to apologise after the race, but I am sure they would at a 10th electric race. During my final, my pit crew were shouting for me, but it was SO loud that it is virtually impossible to have shouts of encouragement and banter - there is some great comedy shouting to be had at 10th electric nationals and the like and I thought it was missing. The LOoooooooooooooooooong finals and pit stops made it impossible to know who was winning in any race without looking at a computer screen - so again no shouting or anything (not that they could hear). At this years 10th euros the A finalists got so much shouting it was crazy - I wonder if the 8th scale euros was just silent as everyone stands with their hands in their pockets and watches in a serious manner ? surely not ? any thoughts ? ![]() Don't get me wrong, I don't hate nitro, but I think I miss some things from electric. |

I like the ease of electric, and its quietness.
Even at my local club, I cant help laugh at the conversations people have whilst racing, very funny. But then again, I do like how you need pit men in nitro, its sooo coool. I think I need to get myself an 8th nitro.

You raise some interesting points which I hadn’t considered before between Nitro & Electric, shame about lack of banter being heard, Oswestry was funny when people were shouting “YOU CAN STILL WIN IT JIMMY” even thou your car had stopped on lap 2 or something… made me laugh, I was just glad not to finish dead last that day.
Amazed that no one apologised for hitting you, maybe there is an answer however… if the guy wasn’t watching then this would explain the poor driving to hit you and lack of apology as maybe he didn’t even see it happen ![]() |

He'd have seen the blood and body parts hanging behind his car if he did hit him.
Frankly, people who like to hit marshalls and paparazzi with cars should'nt be allowed to race ![]() ![]()

Im sure it wasn't deliberate, I think its pretty sick of you to suggest it was!!! imagine the injury if Jimmy hadn't have seen it coming! |

It is more than likely the attitude difference between Electric and Nitro, in as much as in Nitro, they do appear to assume more danger when marshaling where as in electric, not as much?

All depends on what your doing and the drivers attitude, only ever had one bad marshalling incident at batley, race had finished an a car went full on at a jump into my knee, hurt. Hope your okay jimmy, maybe people should pay more attention when racing, seems marshalls get a harsh deal. You always hear people shouting on the rostrum MARSHALL to get them to get there car and annoyed when you dont go quick enough because other cars are lapping. Personally, I dont think a car should be picked up if someone is shouting at you or revving. I think Jimmy was just an unlucky case, these things happen

if you are driving the long finals must be pretty good as you can get into a good rythmn but from a spectators point of view i've watched some nat's at halifax and after a while cant make head nor tail of who is where and start just thinking about where my next cheeseburger is coming from

I had an incident at the regional finals as my marshalling point was pretty much a death trap for this 1 stupid driver. Virtually every lap I had to stand well back as I had been hit by this guy 3 times in 2 heats.
Not once did I get an apology, I got something else. A complaint from him that I was marshalling his car too slowly! What a complete fool |

I nearly killed my dad at Hlaifax On-raod. Picture this.
Somewhere in the undergrowth of England, there is a cool RC track. Its wintery, and very cold, and rain has mixed with left-over tyre fragments to make the track slippery. I decide to test my Nitro car, which has now been sold ![]() ![]() I did this with a EC tourer, only it properly broke, much to the amusement of teemu leino ![]()

i remember darryl once trying to stop a car with his head up at durham indoors..just clipped him at the back of the noggin as it got the jump wrong, very lucky.
the difference isnt so much the speed between nitros and elctric hitting you,its the weight behind the 1/8ths..6lb of metal at 30+ mph hurts.. dave |

Some drivers annoy me BIG TIME! The ones you mentioned that shout at you for not marshalling their car quick enough.
You usually find that they are the drivers that can't actually drive properly, and thats why they need marshalling all the time. Basically if they spent less time crashing and more time concentrating on their driving, then they wouldn't need marshalling in the first place would they! SHUT UP! YOU CRASHED THE FLAMIN' THING! Bah humbug! ![]() I'm not normally that angry. ...oh, and I don't like the nitro smelly thingies anyway. Too much hastle.....and dirty. Some of the nitro lads do take it a bit serious though. They'd make anyone think it was full size racing! |

As for the noise, what do you expect from a nitro meeting indoors... ![]() On a separate matter, when are we going to see a review of the Hong Nor on the site? If you want any help or setups drop me a PM and I'll do my best to help. |

I’ve been to a nitro national in the Netherlands last year with a friend of mine, and to the Neo race last year (spectator).
All I can say is that the fumes and the noise gives me a headache. It just so loud, you cant even talk to the person next to you. At the national I had to marshal for like 30 minutes, I was deaf by the end of it and stinking like hell. Also I don’t like the structure of nitro racing, if you do really well in qualifying you don’t have to drive for hours until your main starts. (BORING) In electro we have 3 mains so there is always action if you are in the A main or in the F main. So ill stick to electro. |
