Default RC18FT

Hi, I just bought a AE RC18FT. Could someone please get me some setup tip for carpet racing. I would also like some advice on a brushless setup. I was looking at the Novak Mini Mongoose or the Dynamite System.

What upgrades are avialible to make it competative.

The biggest thing I can suggest, is to try and make the car a lot more heavy, by adding weight to it in any format (alloy bulkheads), heavy cells, and a slow slow motor. The mongoose would be very overpowered IMO, as I have the 13.5t in my Blaze, and that is more than enough tbh. The blaze is a lot more heavy as well.

I run the RC18T on carpet c/w 8000kv system and it can be a little overpowered on the straightaways, on reflection a 5-6oookv would be better for the track I run on... as yours is the FT, dial in a little extra camber on both f/r, and try to toe-out the rear a bit too... @1.5 toe-in maybe... run the front toe @ 0... If you're just flat carpet, drop the ride height and body height a bit too...

Anyway have fun... and welcome to the world of small...

Ive run a RC18FT on a carpet track for 12months and had alot of wins using the stock motor and speedo so the car setup has more of a factor than motor power. Don't dump it too low or it will handle like a pig, I used 3racing dampers which are much better quality than the std FT shocks. Dont use the outer holes on the front arms, use spacers inside the shocks to bring the front down a few mm. Tyre choice is down to how you drive, I ran proline bowties to get maximum grip and they have a very good wear rate compared to the kit tyres.

The main problem with the RC 18's is the awfull steering arrangement but this can be sorted by using a DP productions Drag-link, its about £7 shipped from the US but is takes the slop out of the steering linkage and makes the car more consistant. Also, dont tighten the servo saver screw up too much or the saver locks and doesn't centre.

As for motors, avoid anything above 7000kv, especially if you're running lipo's. I've got a 9200kv Dinamite, a 7400Kv Losi and a 13.5 Mongoose and the mongoose is by far the best, mainly due to the fact its sensored and is alot smoother than the others.

Ive just started running an LRP Shark with the mongoose and lipos and so far its won every race but I'd still reccomend the 18FT to anyone starting out.

Interesting read, I'm looking for a micro car to have a play with , I just want something cheapish to start with, is the associated worth going for or is it better to get a blaze??

With all my other race cars and 2 new Tzr race bikes to look after a shark seems a bit ott at the moment.
