Default Nitro or electric?

Hi all,

Having raced for 5 years in the early 90's at club and competition levels I've always had the intenton to return. The only problem I'm having is how much the technology has changed with brushless motors and lipo batteries, which I all find very confusing.

I have an origional RC 10 Worlds which is in need a or a rebuild and a RC10 B2 which in in need of a complete new front end. (danm kerbs).

Any advice on where to get parts for the B2 would be much help. Whats the most these models would handle in regards to brushless motors and lipos?

Thinking of buying a HPI Firestorm 10t Nitro for something to mess around with to see if my partners younger boys take an intrest before I spend money on new electircs and rebuilds? Is this a good idea?

As I've never owned a nitro I've done some research and read some reviews and understand that this is a good option and good fun for beginners.

Any advice would be much appreciated as I'm not sure which route to take, although I feel which ever route I take I've got a lot to learn.

Any answers of comments on any of the above would help.

Thanks for your time, Ben

I'd stick with the electric cars. They're so much easier and you can run them anywhere without hassle. I'm not sure what your RC10 could handle, but I have an old Optima mid that runs a 10.5 brushless motor with no issues at all.

For the unrestricted budget I would say both!

I say that as each has their own merits, fun and satisfaction value, an i/c race meeting has the added excitement of engine noise, refueling, engine cuts and restarts, longer finals too and the need for a good pit man!

For electrics there is the convenience relative silence, obviously more restricted running time and the need for battery charging and a bit less pressure on the pit man!

What ever you choose you will enjoy.

Thanks chaps, I see your points!

To get back on to the electric scene for the summer I had pondered on the idea of getting an SV 2, mainly cause of the price (£149) but then I'd still need all new electrics.

Is it more cost effective to get a RTR? if so, what would you recommend?

On the nitro side, I've always fancied something with an engine to tinker around with. Something you could put in the back of the car anytime and thrash around for a couple of hours.
